I invested in the Kuiu Guide jacket and attack pants this year, and have been using both for my scouting. Very happy so far, but i am wondering if they will be enough in the rain? Should i be looking at rain gear as well? Anyone have experience to speak from?

thanks

If you are going to be hunting an area with alot of rainfall, then most guys will give up the guide jacket for a rain jacket. I am in Western WA and that is what I did. However that Guide Jacket has a really good DWR treatment to it and it does repel rain really well. I hiked about 4 hours in a pretty solid down pour in the Cascades last spring to test it out. Stayed dry the whole time. I convinced myself to sell it for a rain coat though as it is a DWR coating and will wear off eventually. That being said, if you hunt an area with little to no rain fall or just the occasional storm/shower, I would think you'd be OK. That's my opinion. The majority are going to say rain jacket though. Hope that helps!

Buy some rain gear, you will be glad you did. Two years ago, I took just my guide jacket and a pair of rain Columbia rain pants thinking it would hold up in the rain.

It did ok, but I did get wet. It rained a everyday for a bit, then it would stop. I swear the inside of the jacket never got dry and I was forced under a tree or rock outcropping to minimize the rain exposure. I think my pack rubbed the DWR treatment off during the hike since my chest and back seemed to be the wet spots both on me and the inside of the coat.

I have since bought the core 4 element rain gear and it has worked flawlessly. If you are hunting an area with little rain, you will be ok, but if you are in the high ountry where rain storms are unpredictable, rain gear is the way to go.
