Has anybody put the Kryptek Aegis jacket and bibs through some good testing? Not too much info or real reviews available for these. I just bought the bibs and was thinking of picking up the jacket as well and want to know how much or if they are really waterproof like they advertise them to be. I am debating on bringing these with me on hunts without bringing a puffy or waterproof outer layer. I do hear great things on how warm and light weight the jacket is, but I want to know how they will do in the down pour or sitting in the rain for hours.

Two weeks ago I posted this in a thread in the 'Whitetail' group.

I've been using the Kryptek Aegis System (Jacket and Bibs) for the last few seasons. I was in the stand the other day, wx= 15f and light snow. Kept me pretty comfortable, layered over Kuiu zip-off merino, Carhartt pants with a Sitka core lightweight long sleeve and 90% jacket. I keep the bibs and the jacket unzipped on the hike in, let the under layers wick any sweat away after I get settled in. Then at the first sign of a chill I zip everything up. The Aegis keeps me warm and dry, but if your moving much you'll overheat quick.

Oh, the outer material seems different. My bibs are older, they make that nylon 'swish-swish' noise while walking in any real cold. The jacket is newer and quieter, the material seems 'rougher' then the bibs.

I hope that makes sense.

I spoke to Kryptek CS since then, apparently the bibs are the old style (c.2014-15) the jacket is newer and much quieter.

Has kept my very warm and dry. I recommend them.

It's an extremely warm system. Ive hunted in downpours and down close to zero. The jacket truly is a all in one, very warm. The pants are very bulky, you can't really walk around in them.

Only issue I've had with the jacket is once its wet(saturated) it takes a hell of a long time to dry out and it's heavy. So keep up on the DWR every year.

A shitty November day in Idaho:)

So it sounds like from most of my reading, the Aegis jacket and bibs are not really waterproof like advertised?

It sounds like either I've been fortunate (which might be a first) or Ryan has had worse conditions then me. I'd definitely take his advice into consideration. But, while I've been out in steady rain, mine hasn't soaked through.

Just because a jacket "wets out " doesn't necessarily mean that the interior of the coat is wet as far S I understand. I have had jackets get soaked on the outer shell but the inside stayed dry.

Thanks for the replies and pictures. Now I am kicking myself for not getting the system on sale for a super price a few years ago.

I'll be in a tree stand wearing mine in the morning. I wish it would snow, but it'll just be more rain.

Some clarification, I don't think it's ever leaked through on me. But the outside fabric seems to hold water in a downpour. It gets worse once the DWR wears off.

I had the first gen and second gen. The first gen was slicker but made noise. The second gen is a brushed outer, much quieter but can hold some water.

I've used mine in a treestand in rain and snow both and never gotten wet. Only problem I have with it is a tree stand is the only place I can use it, way too hot for me.

Here is my review of the Aegis system:

My biggest gripes:

The chest/center zipper needs to come down lower on the pant, enough said.

Thumb loops on the jacket sleeves are pretty much worthless. They're too small for me.

Absolutely agree.

Honestly, If Kryptek made an Aegis puffy pant I'd probably dump the bibs and buy it.

It would be easier to pack. Easier to put on/take off in the field/stand.

I scored a aegis jacket off ebay this morning. I'll see how it does this season, I'm debating whether to bring it on my high mountain buck hunt and leave my rain and puffy at home. I know it will be used during elk season for sure. As long as it keeps the rain off of me, I'll be happy.

I got the jacket here a few days ago, haven't had too much time to play with it. I got size large as that is my normal sizing for jacket, the aegis large seems to be a very slim fitting jacket with very little room for layering under it. Overall its a very soft and quiet jacket to wear, without testing it in cold weather my guess would be that its quite warm even without any layers underneath besides a shirt. We're suppose to be getting some rain this weekend so I may test it outside and see just how waterproof it is. Still up it in the air about bringing it on my high mountain buck hunt this year, since it does feel a bit on the heavy side and I do like have some options as far as layering. I feel the jacket and bibs will be best for late season (Elk for me).

So I ended up grabbing a Aegis bibs in medium and large and am having a hard time deciding which will work best for me? The mediums fit me like a pair of pants but alittle snug. The large seem to fit me very well but seem to be very large around the lower part of the legs.

What sizing are you guys running with? I'm 5'11", 185lbs, 34 waist, and medium build.

I'm 6' 205 36 waist, I wear the XL. I agree you probably won't put too much under them. I typically wear a merino layer with a mid layer for the walk/ hike in, then put the Aegis on when I get settled in. If I'm wearing the bibs and jacket while I'm moving I'll sweat my ass off.

I probably won't wear anything under the bibs besides my boxers. I plan to use these during regular rifle season, if its cold and we're not walking much. I was just wondering if these are designed to be loose fitting or fairly snug? Maybe I need a medium/large size, like a Kifaru smedium belt?
