I a looking to upgrading to a Kifaru pack and can not decide on the pack system. I am going to go with a 24" hunting frame and looking for the best light weight option for a day pack that I can carry a gun or bow, water bladder and basic day pack items and that can convert to bring everything back out with an animal, elk or deer.

I know there are a lot of users on the sight and hoping to get a little advice before investing in a system.

Thanks for the input.

I've been using the 22 mag for quite a while now and really love it. Panel loader with long sewn in side pockets good for tripods and spotters. Carrying a rifle Id get the gun bearer.... it works awesome. If I didn't have the 22 mag id have a woodsman. Regards to carrying stuff out, I've carried both meat and capes out with the 22 mag between the frame and bag. Bag works great as a shelf itself. The woodsman will actually have a sewn in shelf.

I think they still have the Tahr in the Rhino Den. It comes with a load shelf and more than enough space in the bag for day plus trips. Also gives you the option of adding external pockets to increase capacity if you decide to take a longer trip. If I hadn't found a good deal on a used system that was the route I was planning to go.

Look at the woodsman.

I use daily it for the last month of season in the roll you describe. Plenty big enough for day pack use with even some bulky stand sit warm clothes. It has a meat shelf and also hauls. I have loaded it with 60 pounds on a 22 inch frame and it was fine.

Thanks for the advise guys, I like the new day pack they just advertised as well. I haven't been doing any spike camping lately so really only need day pack and pack out, but like the flexibility for bigger loads in if necessary. I am thinking maybe the day pack and cargo net or some kind of shelf. Any thoughts on that?

Search the classifieds on here for a Mtn Rambler bag. They're discontinued, but pop up in the classifieds. Another option is the Nomad. I use a lid and grab it with both. Add the high camp bag with the nomad and turn it into a several night setup. I'm a big fan of vertical scabbard on my back. Both these pack work well in that aspect. Good luck.

I have been happy with the Nomad as a day pack or for short spike camp hunts. I'm not sure how it compares weight wise with some of the other p;acks being mentioned but it works really well packing meat or quarters.

I tend to go the other direction, and just get a bag big enough to handle everything I need to do. A 5000 - 6000 cu pack cinches down nicely, and can be used for everything from a day pack to week long trips.

I have used the DT2 and 22 Mag bags, and just purchased a Reckoning for this season but do not have much time in it. For me, swapping out bags (from 22 mag to DT2) for different activities and different loadouts just seemed kind of silly after awhile. This year I will just be running the Reckoning bag and sold the others. Weight savings between a larger and smaller pack is really marginal, especially if you need to start adding pockets or a guide lid to hold extra stuff.

However, if I were looking for smaller packs that had load handling capability I would take a close look at the Woodsman and Appolo. Both seem pretty cool.
