Wanted to share my experiences with my new Gunbearer! When I'm packing in through the "non-hunting" portions of the mtn, my rifle is in my scabbard (I carry the Eberlestock Just One--little heavy as packs go, but like its features; it's what I chose). I got into the gunbearer this season and really glad to have done it. It's two parts: the buttstock "cradle" attaches to my pack hip belt, and there's a barrel strap that attaches to my shoulder strap. These two items put my rifle right in the perfect ready position should I need it when I'm sneaking around. I still hunt with a hiking pole to help balance while crawling over deadfalls, and I really like my other hand free to help that sneak. A regular rifle sling is always flying around.

Here's the rub: You'll learn after you go over a few logs that you'll control the rifle when it's in the gunbearer. That leg on the gunbearer side of things has a tendency to bump that gun outward, and then it comes flying back into your forehead. It's a user problem, not a product problem! after four or five bruises, I learned.

I love this sling when rifle backpack hunting! Hope this helps someone.

Yep...great product. Some people can't get used to it but I like it.

I just used mine for the first time on a week long deer hunt. It took a while to get use to it but now I realy like it. So nice to have my hands free. I will use it next on a elk hunt and see hw I like it with my heavier elk gun. I think it is a great product.

I used mine this past weekend and on Tuesday. With my setup I found that the rifle rides much better upside down, scope out. I was getting some rubbing and twisting when I carried it the standard way. Works perfectly after making that adjustment.

I used one this year, for the first time, and liked it very much. It requires a lot less movement to bring the rifle to ready/aim than conventional slings which also makes it faster to do so. The barrel bumping into my forehead (like the other fellow mentioned) was not so bad for me as I was wearing a ball cap with a bill so the few times it got close to my face the hat saved me a creased forehead. I cannot see going back to a regular old sling for hunting.

It may just be a positioning issue. Have you tried placing the basket back a bit further on your belt? I have not experienced this problem but my buttstock is pretty far back.

I was going to ask the same question as Bruce as I also keep mine further back and do not have an issue with my thigh hitting it. Love the product.

Same here. I carry mine like the pic Bruce posted. Great product. It does take a little getting used to.
