Those of you who have had both the older duplex and the newer UL what are your thoughts? How noticeable of a difference is there between the older duplex frames compared to the new ultralight frames?

Trying to decide between picking up a used duplex, or just biting the bullet on a new UL frame.

Also, are there noticeable differences in the different generations of duplex frames? Anything to look out for or avoid? How do you tell which generation duplex a frame is?

Thanks!

I just upgraded from the classic duplex to the new light frame. I would say if you are counting ounces it's a no brainer, get the light or ultralight.

As far as comfort and functionality I honestly can't tell the difference. The light frame is supposed to have better ventilation but my back still sweats like a mofo when I'm working hard. They both carry weight and if one is better I couldn't tell the difference.

One plus to the older frame is that it has multiple load lifter connections built in. Not a big deal if you are using one of the new bags because they now put them on the bags, but if you want to put an older style bag on it you will be limited to the load lifter connection on the top of the frame. I like the old argali so it's something I just deal with.

The new frame has a sweet rhino embossed on the lumbar pad so that's a plus on that one!

Thanks for the reply. It’s nice to hear from people who have used both side by side. Is your duplex the version that has the non slip covering the entire lumbar pad? Or is it the version that was like half covered with non slip? Curious if you are able to notice any difference with slipping under heavy loads.

It was the last generation of the duplex so it had the full non slip as I recall. I never had a problem with it slipping even when loaded up with 120 pounds.

Not sure I'd go UL but the new lightweight is a big improvement on the comfort of the original frame. The older Duplex is a great frame. But the new one has better breathability and I don't get a lot of low back pressure like I did with my older Duplex.
I'd rather have the couple extra Oz of the Lightweight over the UL and be able to handle a bigger load.
Then a word of caution if you're looking at a used Lightweight. The first ones used a piece of carbon arrow for the crossbar at the top of the frame. If you find a used one go ahead and get it then ask Kifaru to swap you out for the newer version that uses a bombproof crossbar.

I went from a 24" tactical frame to a 26" Lite frame, the switch has been nice with the taller lifters. The new frame is stiffer, the shoulder straps are cut slightly different to stop them from being able to compress & slip under long/heavy loads, and there is increased ventilation along the center of your back. I kept the 24" tactical as a training frame/loaner and don't feel that it would hold me back if I hadn't gotten the new frame.

If you're near Denver, you owe it to yourself to check out their showroom when it opens back up. Worth it to try on all the frames and bags. RMS Gear also (typically) has a few Kifaru frames and bags in stock, and you're welcome to check out both of my frames if neither of those options are open (I'm nearby to both).

I've never used the older frame but can't say enough good things about the new lite. I went with one over the ultra lite because it has more tab loops along the side for attaching different thing so I feel the functionality is increased.

I don’t see why the light and ultralight are only 2 oz apart? Seems pointless??

I have owned a 2017’ hunter frame which was similar to the tactical. Now I have the Duplex Lite. Back breathes better than the Hunter but both carried weight awesome.

Just got my Duplex Light and had my second DT1 mounted in no time. It is hands down a big improvement over the Bikini frame. I think that is because of a better fit and having the correct belt size now. I also have the Tactical Frame with my original DT1 bag on it. My initial thoughts are my Tactical frame with DT1 will be at the truck and ready to haul the bulk of my meat once I get the first load back in my Duplex Light with DT1. The light feels great and undoubtedly will let air flow better.

I mean is a used frame really that much cheaper?
Maybe If you bought an entire setup you could save some money.
But at the most I've noticed you would save between $50 & $100 tops on just a frame.
Personally I'd just mow a couple lawns or something and order a new one.

I always have to slap my friends around when they are gettin cheap about hunting gear.. Dude a tank of gas and trip to the grocery store costs as much as this frame you’ll have for 10 years... no brainer...
