I was messing around with my Apollo this weekend. I wanted to see if I could get all my gear for a 5 day hunt in an Apollo with a guide lid. Answer = success! This is a great day pack set up.

Specs: new hunting frame with aluminum stays in black with CB belt and harness.

Apollo pack in CB.

Guide lid in MC with small pocket outside.

Medium pocket, Nalgene bottle holder, and mini pocket on the belt.

Pair this with my AGC bino harness and it is an awesome setup.

Looks like a great setup. What are you using for shelter/sleeping bag and are you stowing it between the pack and frame or actually able to fit into the pack itself?

I have a big Agnes 1 man tent in there. You could fit in the outside though easily using the straps at the bottom or a grab it.

Own one myself its a great setup. I have mine setup very similar to DB. Guide lid grab it and a med pocket attached to guide lid. Am looking forward to use it this year. Super slim design that is very comfortable to get in and out of especially with the full zip down the front..

Hey guys. Really considering ordering an Apollo. Had a kuiu 1850 and it was to small. By the time you put a 3 liter bladder in it seemed stuffed. I find the Kifaru bags run larger than the rated cubic inches. Is this so with the Apollo?
Any insight is appreciated.
Keep it together, Rob

Hey TG Here are both side by side. Id say the Apollo with the extended roll top will hold a lot more and thats not even considering having the guide lid in use. This should give you a better idea.

I have the Apollo and I would say that it would be too small for you. I can't say what the actual cu. in. would be but with 3 litre of water there's not much more room. The bag itself is right at 1 lbs. and can roll up and fit into a big jacket pocket. If you had problems at 1800 I would go with a bigger Kifaru bag. Having said that, I love my Apollo and can put however much clothing or gear between the bag and frame to offset the small bag. No clothes needs to go in the bag itself. I put any extra clothes in my rain gear and all of it goes between the bag and frame, leaving only gear and food in the bag. More than enough for me for a day/night out.

Just curious, if you used this for a 5 day hunt and got an animal down, what would be your process to pack it out?

Not trying to be a smart ass, I'd genuinely like to know.

Thanks guys. That's the info I was hoping for. It's definitely taller than the 1850. May just have to try one out.
Thanks, Rob

I don't think I would use for a 5 day hunt but I was curious to see if I could squeeze into it.

I have a nomad that I have a hard time moving away from. Also I am primarily an elk hunter and would require two to three trips out. First trip could handle a quarter no problem on the load shelf. Back at the truck would swap to a larger bag. No way I can pack an elk out in one trip.
