So i currently have a Kifaru 22 MAg. I like it and think it carries weight well. BUT...... it seems heavy when empty. Really can support heavy loads but i would really like a lighter pack. The other thing i am not a fan of is how hot and sweaty my back gets. Anyone else have similar experience with the 22 Mag? Any tips on a lighter set up or do i just need to pack shop? Im not fully versed on all the Kifaru option and yes calling them will be my next step but i thought i would ask here on peoples thoughts

What are your goals for the pack? If you want to haul meat comfortably that pack is very competitive with other brands. If you want to carry weight well the heavier frame regardless of brand will make them warmer than a basic day pack.

I don’t own a Kifaru so not a fan boy promoting their stuff just someone who has researched many packs including what you are asking about. I would say if you feel this is warm then you will want to avoid the Mystery Ranch packs with how there yoke is flat against the back it will have less air flow.

Thanks FF, after re reading my post i realized it wasnt real clear what i was asking. was hoping some folks with experience with several brands of packs would be able to weigh in and say "i had the same experience and started using brand X which is much lighter" or, i switched to this bag configuration and found it to be lighter and give more airflow "

In my opinion the frame is going to cause much more back sweat than the said bag ever will. I used to have an x curve and now have the duplex lite which breathes a bit better but it wasn't a huge difference. A woodsman is a slightly larger and actually lighter alternative to your current 22 mag. You can also have a bag made to your needs by @pods8 if your looking to shave weight and customize. If you're chasing critters with a frame and pack combo you're going to have back sweat. There's really no way around it. Not trying to be a smart ass, but on the list of things I'm looking for in pack, back temp concerns dont cross my mind.

The pack won't cause your back to sweat, the frame will. This time of year, any frame will cause your back to sweat. Worse yet, go frameless and there will be zero air flow. I have a 22mag that I use 90% of the time here in ND for day hunts. Great bag for that. I also have a Reckoning for extended hunts. The reckoning is nice and light for it's size, however it lacks the organization that the 22mag has. You need to think of how you like your pack. If you just want a bag and cram your stuff in it, the 22mag is probably not the best for you. Get a small muskeg. Any bag, like the 22mag, with pockets, etc. sewn in will weigh more than one without the built in organization. It is a preference thing and you need to figure out how you like to hunt and what works best for you.

I own a Kifaru Tactical frame, Stone Glacier Krux, and an MR Guidelite frame. Lightest is the Krux, then the guidelite, then the tactical... I use a variety of bags on each. My go to set-ups this year will be Kifaru 22 Mag gen 2 for my 4+day hunts and the Krux with a HPG Highlander for day hunts and overnighters. I wouldn’t have any reservations using any of the 3 however. While the Kifaru is heavier, it’s extremely comfortable and that makes up for the 1# difference in weight IMHO...
