The guys with all the money, pro sports athletes, Dr. CEO, CFO, etc are the ones driving up the cost. I talked to a guide in NM who charges $30k and more for either an Elk or mule deer hunt. He stays busy all season long taking out guys in that financial status. How can the average guy compete with that.

My wife’s cousins are in that bracket they tour the world killing polar bear, giant elk and deer and whatever else they want to buy. I over heard one of them say his tag budget is around 150k per year. All of it’s their dad’s or grandpa’s money so it’s nothing for them to drop 30k on a tag. They post all their trophy’s on instagram and thump their chest claiming they’re exellent hunters etc. It used to bother me because you’re right there is no way to compete with that, I finally adopted the mind set that just because they kill bigger animals doesn’t diminish what I worked probably twice as hard for to kill. If the prices keep going up it doesn’t affect me, I never was in the position to even compete in that category to begin with.

I have the money to buy some of these hunts, but I still have the drive to go figure it out myself.

Over the next couple years i may do some more guided trips with my Dad at 74 years old, only so he can experience some things he hasn't taken the time to experience. He's got more money than he'll ever spend and seems to be more interested in just going and being part of the group.

I have had some life lessons/experiences that have made me grateful for the adventure. I still catch myself being jealous, it’s natural, but I am quick to punch the green monster in the face to stop the thievery of my joy.

In my opinion Most guys that are buying high end tags are not about the experience, they are about the ego and clicks. Just a week ago a Governers tag holder flew in Thursday night, drove to unit Friday, shot a buck spotted from the road and was probably home by Saturday. Looking at his insta he has lots of high dollar deer and sheep hunts. Another Governers elk tag this year, guy flew in shot a 400 bull in a bean field, took his grip and grins and headed for the airport. Probably on the ground 6 hours.

I would love to have the tags that can provide those opportunities at those animals. Am I jealous at times? Yes, but I can also look at the animals I have on the wall and the racks laying in the garage and know that I ground it out and had a great experience. The older I get, that's what it's about, I may not get the biggest animal, I get the best I can find, and it tastes so much better when it's seasoned with the blood sweat and tears that I invested in it and shared with close friends.

The stories I can tell will be way better than, so I flew to Oregon, shot a big buck or bull and flew home in the same day. They don't have hunting stories; they just have stories about killing.

I'm in the same boat but approaching the age when I might be buying some of these tags.

My problem is I grew up poor...and spending money like that on myself is foreign to me.

That's where my dad and I are at too.

Some people are like that.

The owner of a 9 billion dollar business is one of our customers. You would never know it when you meet him. He wears flannel shirts, old jeans, wore out boots and drives a Chevy 1500 that isn't flashy.

I’m not sure why this is any different than years past when they were 15k. They were still out of reach for the average guy. I’d buy one if I had 30k burning a hole in my pocket

Money is worthless until it is spent. When the curtain drops, you ain't taking any of it with you. If you don't decide to spend and enjoy it, certainly, someone else will.
