The abserdity on some things is the other way around. Ammo was an issue well befor this year. The bicycle shortage also happened well before this year. Lubber had increased significantly in price last summer. The inflation in the stock market has been going on for years.

I can go on. The hilarious thing is I oppose many of this administrations policies and agree that they are making problems worse and causing new problems; but when you chose to focus on parties, rather than policy, you lost credibility as an "independent" and as having an objective evaluation. Your insistance that nothing was wrong before January 20th just seals that impression.
Hmmmm. I am not there with you on this. This is all come on in the lat year. I don’t ascribe any partisanship to it.

i bought pistol primers in January 2020 for $25 per 1000. Just as Covid hit someone I had advised on pistol purchases asked me what I thought they should do and I told them to order a pile of practice ammo. They bought 1000 rounds of 9mm for under $200 in early March 2020. I have watched lumber prices jump in the last year. I didn’t have any troubles when I shopped for a mountain bike or parts a year ago. Five shops in my town say they basically have nothing now. These are recent phenomenons That have all arisen post Covid onset.

for me personally I hadn’t bought a lot of sporting goods in the last year because I had everything I needed to take advantage of the local opportunities that have been 90% of my focus in the last year. So, I struck me by surprise when I found out bikes are completely sold out. I guess waiting 9 months for a concept rower should have been some sort of clue but I even called a guy about a tune up on a mountain bike and he even said “I can take a look but if it needs parts, I am not sure when I can get or what they will costs“. That is what is shocking to me.

I was working in California for a few months and would see dump truck size piles of bikes.
I was like they stole them and only road them one time, straight to the pile.

Agree, by this year I was referring to the three months of 2021, not a full year.

Being of conservative persuasion but working with many liberals, not to mention liberal family members, clients and colleagues, I find that keeping political discourse out of otherwise friendly discussions is a better path towards good relations. Not that I always take my own advice... Now where were we? What was the subject of this post? Ah yes, may we live in interesting times! :).

I think we’re just seeing the effects of the covid shut downs on most things. You just can’t shut shit down for how many months not expect to the effects.
Along with people not going back to work due to increased unemployment benefits. Why go make widgets for 700 a week when you can stay home and make that.
Ammunition and components is probably about 50% Covid and 50% the new administration.

I work for a high voltage company that mainly supplies power companies with materials and 3" sch 40 pvc just jumped to over 5$ a foot cost, let alone the lead times for other material and price increases.

Working electrical construction, and on a big site (arena) its been an absolute nightmare getting material. And when we do get it it, it's wrong frequently as the parts suppliers are having trouble keeping up /hiring good help exasperating the issues.

The part I enjoy is being told to lose my job, paying people to sit at home and then raising taxes to pay for forcing everyone to stay home. I love seattle

The arena is such a fun job to be on. As far as lumber goes I priced some 4x6’s 4x4’s 2x8’s and 2x4’s to build a play set for the kid and it’s just over $900 which is crazy high. My father in law said osb plywood is $30 a sheet for 4x8 and last year he was paying like $17.

I feel like a lot of the price in lumber is driven by the low interest rates. I do some residential electrical work on the side and charge just about what ever I want. I can’t keep up with all the work going on right now. My main job in the industrial side of construction hasn’t slowed down either. Biggest limitation we have is people. And they seem to be showing up daily from California, Colorado, NY, and Connecticut.
Our labor rates have gone up 30% or so in the past 6 years and it’s still tough to find people to work. I think everyone who wants a job has one in my area (upstate SC).

I guess one aspect of this I hadn’t thought of came through in a chat with a bike store owner. Their business boomed last year when people all wanted bikes to exercise. No she survived through Covid but for 2021 she has no bikes to sell and not enough parts to do a bunch of service work. I feel bad for her and her business.

I am sitting on a few home improvement projects I don’t want to start because of materials costs.

makes me think this economic recovery is going to take longer than many think.

I was told by a couple plumbing distributors that at the moment we are facing a shortage on the following items:

- Foam Core PVC Pipe & Sch 80
- Tankless & Tank Water Heaters
- PVC Fittings
- Stand Alone Tubs
- Glues & Primers

The list goes on. Just waiting on the fall out....

Ports are all full and backed up too, due to lack of workers and COVID protocols. Stuff is sitting in shipping crates and taking 2-3 times longer to ship. Causes delays and higher prices.

Can confirm prices for material have gone up almost 200%. Have been telling lots of folks to hold off on projects that they want to be completed but are just upgrades.

You would be surprised by the number of folks ignoring that advice and having what should be a 5-6k deck job for example done for 13-14k without batting an eye or questioning why so much. Demand for "can it be next week?" seems to be on the rise, no patience thanks to the Amazon addicts.

If every single sportsman and legal gun owner in the Us made their voice heard.... we would blow these anti gun and anti-hunting folks out of the water. As a group we could be a mighty force.

The problem in the US is many sportsman and gun owners don’t participate.

Contributing to the Orgs that fight for our rights- NRA, SCI, etc is a worthy effort.

And too many still worried about being nice, which is what allowed us to
get in this crap hole we're in.

There was a bicyle shortage last summer. Every shop in town was sold out and when they got something it sold right away.

I think we haven't hit the bottom yet for the recovery to start.
