I recently picked up an older accupoint 3-9x40 with the amber duplex and the tritium isn't visible at all. Is it worth getting it replaced? Ive just never had one with new tritium in it and was wondering if it makes a big difference. As long as theres ambient light it seems bright with the fiber optics.

If it's an option, I wouldn't be without it. Consider it like a 100,000mi tune-up on a car - Trijicon has hundreds of thousands of units out there, and the tritium only lasts about 10-12 years. They do that kind of servicing all the time. Go for it.

I would contact Accupoint tech services and discuss your issue. It may or may not be worth replacing the tritium, rather buy a new scope.

I would not go through the hassle to replace the tritium, but I'm dying to know the cost. Keep us updated if you do it.

Keep in mind, you'll likely need to do it again in another 12 years, which is the half-life of tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. The real advantages of the AccuPoint is the fiber-optics and rugged construction. The 3-9X is one of my favorite scopes.

I had a dead 3-9 green and the fiber optic on that puppy with that style eyepiece still took it at least 15 minutes past the usual 30 minutes pre/post sunrise/set...so I would say don't bother. I have a newer style eyepiece on a 1-6 with smaller centerdot that glows like mad on the tritium and really comes alive in twilight and in dark you can two of the triangle windows glow blue-ish as in you won't lose your rifle in the dark...but in legal light that reticle will be fine without any illumination in all reality...prolly won't send it in ifn when that dies as not my primary ride and will still do anything I need of it. It's more of a luxury imo but the flat top eye pieces don't let in near as much light as the one half circle window eyepieces for fiber optic...

Im thinking I'll just leave it alone for now. In the future I may decide I need the tritium but I also have other scopes with illuminated reticles if I think I'll need it.
