Insert vs. Outsert

I was really amazed at the length difference between these two systems. I will say that I have gotten amazing down range accuracy with Easton’s match-grade inserts, but am excited to test these Iron Will’s. I have experienced zero performance issues with the Easton match-grade, so I have no complaints. I am curious what your experiences are and what you run on your shafts.IMG_0438.jpeg

In my opinion - there's nothing better than a HIT/Footer setup for a 5mm shaft. Or glue in with collar for 4mm. The strength and concentricity can't be beat IMHO.

That said, the IW stuff is super nice and premium. I just don't think that there's anything wrong with a stock easton HIT. It's aluminum encased in carbon and I haven't broke or bent a stock one. I'm sure in theory you could.. I just don't think it's something that is a concern.

I only went with IW 4mm to get a 50gr HIT insert weight. I think Easton’s HIT is lighter but am not 100% sure . Perhaps, they offer a 50gr HIT now???

I don’t like the insert/outsert collar combo. I use a standard 50 grain brass HIT. I cut my arrows as short as possible and a collar would not allow me to do that. Also, I see the whole collar thing as a gimmick when it comes to shooting most NA animals and a lot of critters in other countries as well.

I have had great experience with inserts and half outs (I know some have had bad experiences or hate half outs)

Most name brand manufacturers make a great product, but I’ll just say, if you’re going to use a half outs or outsert, best to use stainless steel vs aluminum

Easton offers a 50/75 grain brass HIT. Ethics also offers and Aluminum 50 grain HIT. I reall like it because it has so much footing and glue surface on the HIT.

I ran a RIP TKO with a podium insert/outsert and and IW collar. It's not a HIT, but the insert extends out the arrow shaft and still allows a collar. I bought the arrows used on Rokslide with all components already installed, 50gr titanium with IW 25gr stainless collar. I can swear by the durability. I absolutely destroyed the front leg bone of a Red Stag on a missed shot. The arrow held together enough and did break, and the broadhead was destroyed, but the leg was so demolished it nearly was amputated. I don't think that would have occurred without the reinforced collar/insert. I will say this about the collars, they can't hurt and they do add some extra durability to the arrow. But they don't make them indestructible. The arrow can still break and crack, but I've had enough hard impacts and arrows still be shootable to continue running them going forward. I now use the same arrow but with a 10gr IW titanium collar.
