I'm feeling a little lazy to google and wade through all the information so I'll ask here cause I know I'll get good info lol...

If two people each have a Inreach paired with their cell phones can they communicate back and forth in the backcountry (providing both Inreaches are turned on) without either of them having cell service?

Example: "Bull down, need help at xyz cordinates".......
Hunting buddy: "Right on, I'll be there in 45 minutes"...........

Yes. You need to use the InReach email address from your account though and not the "phone number" b/c the number is not actually assigned to that unit and it changes over time.

Each of you just need to save the email with the contact info and select that to start a convo. I suggest testing it out before you lose cell service though. Once you have a conversation started you go back to it just like on your phone.

In your InReach Account will show your InReach Address. Add that to your contacts and be sure to sync

The address is usually your email handle you used to sign up for an account so [email protected].

If your doing a lot of inreach to inreach it works best if you change your mail check time, the usual setting on the inreach is 10 minutes between check intervals so unless you manually check for new mail it can take a while waiting on the 10 minute checks.

Quick question for you Inreach aficionados. I just got done with my first sheep hunt of the season. I had tried sending a message to a friends cell phone. Somehow, the message went to another friends cell phone, even though I had the phone number correct.

I am using the app on my phone paired with my Inreach.

Any ideas how that could happen?

(also, tried sending messages to other people's cell phones, and they never received them)

Is it an older model and have you updated it recently? Not sure if that’s your issue, but mine had been turned off for 2 years and I re-activated it this summer, I had similar issues when testing, updated the device and all was well...

Like posted first thing you need to do is Sync your unit to get any updates it may need. If after the sync it's still sending to the wrong number call the InReach phone number and they'll help straighten things out.

Thanks guys, tried the email addresses and I think I got it figured out, just need to try it in the hills now..
