I have a Promaster 525 carbon fiber tripod with the promaster pan head. Total wt is under 3.5 lbs. The tripod with head attached compacts down to under 19". I have only used it on 1 mule deer hunt and it did great, but can't comment on long term durability. Packs nice and is plenty stable with for my 65 mm Vortex Razor spotter. The promaster pan head is pretty good for the price of about $50. I am sure there are much better heads out there, but you pay more for them. You can check out S and S Archery and they have a pretty good video showing the Slik and the Promaster tripods.

I have the Promaster t525 carbon fiber tripod and the vanguard ph11 head. I am running the 85 Razor spotter. I have been using this combo all summer and fall. and have been impressed so far. No complaints yet but my last tripod setup was quite heavy and the head was horrible. Just another option to check out.

Precision Rifle Solutions.

You can use it for both shooting and spotting. It's high quality gear designed to take a beating.

Thank you for this! Pretty much exactly what I've been looking for!

One question though, do the legs swivel outbound? (ie. adjusting for slopes/terrain or setting it flat on the ground with legs spread out)

The Slik Sprint Pro is a pretty darn good tripod for what it costs (I bought mine for $100). It's light, and with the extension, tall enough to use while standing for me (6'). However, I took the extension on mine out and use it almost exclusively sitting down. I've found it plenty sturdy for both a Nikon ED-50 and a Swaro STS-65. It's been a permanent fixture on the top of my Crew-Cab and will continue to be. I paired it with a Sunpak ball head and I find the combo to be pretty dang handy and extremely affordable.

I think the entire unit (tripod+ball head) weighs right at 3lbs.

Hope this helps.
