Idaho Bear Units 10 & 12

First off I've never hunted out of state (utah) and I've only been to Idaho three times. Twice was to run the South Payette river and one was to visit a family in Driggs. This year, my cousin in law drew a Utah bear tag and I helped him with his bait site. A lot of work but fun at the same time. It got me thinking about doing a bear hunt. I've done a little research and have come across units 10 and 12 a couple of times. I'd like to go up there in the next couple of weeks to learn the area a little bit for a possible hunt next year, but would like to be able to maximize my time up there as much a possible. This is were I come here for your experience. Where on these two units should I focus most? Are there areas in those units that I should avoid? What kind of vehicle access is there? I have a very capable jeep for some rough terrain, but do not have access to any atvs. Also does anybody know anything about unit 27? Thanks for your help.

Good thing about both units is a two bear limit. Lots of area in those two units. Also lots of road access. You could drive and explore for days. Pretty decent gravel roads. Not sure about areas to avoid as I haven't hunted very much up there. Be aware of the private parcels especially unit 12 on the southernly area towards the highway. My parents have a house and also a rustic rental Cabin in Syringa along the clearwater. Pm me later if you want about that. They are renovating right now but it could be available next year.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep the cabin in mind. Do you know of a place/link that I can get road info? How is the fishing in the Clearwater or surrounding area?

I'm not at home but I think the map I have is the clearwater national forest map. It's really good and has the whole area.
I also picked up a state gazateer (spelling?) at sportsman's warehouse or some store like that. Has all the recreational roads and a lot of trails too. I really haven't used websites for that area. The forest service office in Lewiston ID could probably help you out with maps as well, if you do a search for their number. The trout fishing can be outstanding in the clearwater and lochsa. Based on other people telling me so. My bro in law fly fished the lochsa and told me it was pretty good.
