I thought I was pretty healthy

Notwithstanding the age of this thread, there is a serious message here - everyone with a history of heart disease in their family needs to determine their calcium score AND engage in additional medical intervention if warranted. That can only be done with a CT angiogram of the heart with contrast. Dr. Peter Attia's book "Outlive, the Science and Art of Longevity," indicates that in 25% of the cases of fatal heart attacks, the first sign of potential heart problems is an individual's sudden death. Don't think that because you "eat clean," exercise, have a low BMI and good blood numbers you're in the clear.

My cholesterol has been always on the higher side since my 20s…I am gonna be 49 this month. I have been refusing statins for 15yrs. I have a family history of heart disease and lost both my father and grandfathers to heart disease. I think about this everyday. I just had my second stress test with contrast and sonogram of my heart under stress…everything was great. I had my first CAC score 2 yrs ago and that was perfect…a score of zero. I have had a carotid doppler of my upper carotid arteries…no problem.

I hope I stay fortunate enough to never have to have a triple bypass. Anyone in there 40s should start requesting these tests for piece of mind and for preventative measures.

High cholesterol is good. Your brain is made of the stuff. Statins are a multi-billion-dollar industry.
