Anyone run their hydration bladder in the lid of their pack rather than in the main bag?

I have a Mystery Ranch Longbow and run the MR lid on it for added storage. It works great as a rest with this setup as it has that seam between the two pockets that work well as a gun rest for shooting. I place light weight items up there to act as a sandbag in a way for the rest.

Thinking of running the hydration bladder up there as it has a hydration port. It would free up space in the main bag for those times I need to pack more gear for a couple days overnight vs. a day pack. Only concern is the sloshing potentially becoming annoying to listen to.

Ive done it and it works fine. But it is not my preference. I usually put it in the lid if i stop to fill it and dont want to uncompress my main bag to get it back in there. Mines a 3 liter and that is a fair amount of weight at the very top of your pack. Can make it more tippy when you lean. However, i never have water in my bladder if im packing in or out. Plenty of water where we hunt and i dont want to carry the weight or risk compressing the bladder and popping it. I just use a 1 liter bottle for those times. Once i drop camp, the lid no longer sits up high, supported by a stuffed main bag. It hangs down almost flat against frame, exactly where a bladder should go. Even then i tend to run it hanging from the loop that is designed for it, and save room in the lid for all the other crap i cram in there.

Long story short, it will work fine. Try it and see what works best for you.

Didn't think that on a day pack setup it'll hang down as nothing will support it. I'll just keep it where it's supposed to go. for a longer fuller pack i may run it up top so it's not compressed. I like to have tons of water only b/c i drink like an elephant. Thanks.

I’ve put my 3L bladder in my guide lid and it’s worked fine. I’ve decided I don’t hang my bladder inside my pack anymore. After my bag is filled and cinched down, I lay my bladder on top of everything as the last item packed on top. Keeps the weight up high, easier to monitor for amount left, and much quicker to pull out and refill. Most of the time now I use my bladder as a reservoir to fill my Nalgene. When it’s sitting on top of the load.....No worries about getting squashed by other gear. No worries about the tube becoming disconnected and filling the bottom of my bag with water. Much easier to drink from than sucking when I’m already sucking air. Lol

how do you deal with sloshing or does it not bug you?

I don’t really notice it. When I do, I just (or have my buddy) cinch the guide lid down a little more. Can’t say it’s ever bugged me but I’m sure I’ll notice it now. Lol
