I was watching a certain hunting show about a week ago and the hunter was spotting though his spotting scope, and then it happened, he turned his spotting scope sideways and used it for a rest for his rifle. Have you ever done this? Wouldn't it be hard on the optics?

thanks in advance,
Darik

That's y I like my outdoorsman trigger head. I just drop the hole show scope and all 90 degrees and there's a notch cut in the side I lay my gun on.

I used to do it. I've done it by rotating my spotter sideways and resting on top of my 15s. If your optics and tripod are worth their weight in dog crap it won't hurt a thing. Once you figure out how to rest off of the optic, the principles are the same as shooting off a non-clamp type saddle. Use the sling to pull the rifle down tight, and push and pull. I've killed two deer with this method, one at 505 yards standing, one at 477 sitting. Now I use adapters and clamp my rifle straight into the tripod head.

If you have a quick release adapter there are many rifle tests that can be attached to a tripod head by using an extra qr plate. Super easy and quick to do. I prefer to use the snipe pod v2 rifle rest.
