I just sat down to a dinner of beef steak, the freezer is almost empty. :( GAWD.... not only did it taste funny, it really hurts the pride and costs a lot! :)

Uh oh, yep you are due. We have a strict no meat giving away to family or friends from last years supply until we are successful getting meat this year. That way if we suck it up a year and fail to kill anything we'll have another year to make up the difference!!! Best of luck to you this fall!!!

That sounds like a good policy Luke,
Wish I could say I gave some away, the combination of growing kids and only 2 deer in the freezer= out too soon. :)

Yes the wait is brutal this year. At least goose season is somewhat close, it helps keep the wild meat in the freezer.
And on a side point then we can get some good threads on hunting forms as well.

Yeah, its time for us to restock. Have almost eaten two elk. Guess i have to get three this year....

I can promise you one thing. If I run out of meat before season opens I will declare open season out window of my truck if that's what it takes. It's a little different down here though. In much of south Georgia the deer population runs 20 to 40 deer per square mile and are regarded as pests by the farmers. Unless you are shooting the county up or around their house they really kind of like you shooting a few out of their fields. If you ask the right farmer if he would mind if you shot a deer in his field for meat he most likely will say yes and call you if the warden drives past him going your way. I drive an old beat up ranger and look even poorer than I am so I'm welcome but if you drive up in a shinny King Ranch then not so much. I've been really good for the last ten years or so but my outlaw side is just under the surface. Let me run out of meat and it's on.

We feel truly blessed every time we put meat in the freezer, and so we try to share with family and friends, especially those we know really need the meat. Aside for the occasional restaurant meal, in our household we don't purchase meat, fish or poultry at all. Last season we were fortunate to end up with six cases of canned salmon, around 40 packages of halibut, half a moose, two caribou, one dall sheep, one mountain goat, and one Sitka blacktail deer. We shared a lot with family and friends throughout the year, but as Luke said above we are now in a holding pattern until we have some idea what we can count on for this season. If we aren't as lucky this year as last, we can happily keep eating some of what we have leftover for another year. If are lucky enough that we come home with more meat to restock the freezer, then we will have more to share... :)

I have a feeling you two will have a good year again. It always seems the more you share with those in need, the more you are blessed with yourself. It truly goes both ways.
