Have a RX3 ultra coming to the door in a couple days.

Interested to see if any one has set up/tuned one of these yet and can offer any input.

Was going to use my Hamskea off the RX1 ultra for a rest but wouldn't mind trying something new (AAE prophecy, nock one elevate, qad hdx come to mind)

Look out for that RX1 in the classifieds next week.

Happy New Year to everyone...

Ive set up a few so far. I'd recommend sticking with your Hamskea. Can't really beat them for tunability and reliability.

As far as set up goes theres no real secret to setting them up. The cam system is really easy to work with and shouldn't give you any trouble.

Thanks OR.

Glad to hear it's been an easy bow to set up. Pretty excited to get mine set up and shooting straight.

I've set up a couple rx 3 for people, tune just as easy as rx 1's. Big diff is the ability to slide grip over, I think moving it in gives u a better true center. But everyone grips diff u will have to try it out. I run the aae prophecy on my rx1 and couldn't be more pleased with it performance over the last hunting season, I ran hamskea before for years.

Anyone have any ideas on how I could squeeze some more speed out of this rig ?

Got my RX3 Ultra set up and shooting pretty good for day 1 but it seems slow to me. Chrono'd at 256fps with a 28draw/70lb/Number 2 cam 480grain.

Thought I would be around 265/270.

Very novice with setting bows up so any advice would be helpful.

Lighten your arrow up, lengthen your draw length or increase your poundage. Those are the only things that will give you anything noticeable.

Make sure your cams are properly timed and synched.

Cams are synced, timed. Sat at the shop for a while yesterday and we got it shooting straight, quiet, and smooth. It’s just a tad slower than I expected. Not the end of the world just thought it was slow. I shot so much yesterday my elbow wants to cry, 50 degrees in January in Michigan and a new bow made for a long day of shooting.

Can I switch the cams out to a turbo somewhat easy or is that a custom shop thing I need to do from start ? Also if I bought mods for a fixed 28 draw would that help bump it up at all ?

Switching out the cams would be expensive, if Hoyt would even sell them to you. You'd come out ahead selling the bow and having Hoyt build you an ultra with turbo cams, a normal RX3, or a turbo. Make sure you shoot a turbo first - much different feel.

Basically - deal with it or buy a different bow, although that does sound slow. My RX1 ultra, 72/29 shot a 520 grain arrow at 271.

It's not worth the hassle in my opinion. You are looking to gain 9-14 fps which will do nothing as far as point of impact or pass thru ability. I'd go with it, or as mentioned above, get a different "speed" bow. Unless you can gain 50+fps you aren't going to notice much difference.
Good luck! I have an RX3 on the was as well.

Thanks for the replies and insight. Definitely making poundage. Checked it twice.
My RX1 Ultra with the same arrows/specs was shooting faster also (265ish), kinda figured I would the new one would be faster or similar.

I am going to shoot it for a few weeks and tone down my field tips (200 to 175grain)

Good call on shooting the turbo cam. I owned a Carbon Defiant Turbo for 2 weeks and hated it. What a jumpy bow.

It's the Valkyrie system. 300 spine, Valkyrie Reign/Black Eagle Arrows, Cut to 27 5/8th arrow only, the normal centerpin sleeve, 4 fletch with their vanes (aae promax)

The speed difference is most likely in the cam. If you’re RX1 was a #2 cam you were closer to the top end of the cam. Now you’re toward the bottom of the cam on the RX3. That’s why you’re seeing such a difference in speeds between the two.

It's the other way around actually

The RX1 was a #3 cam and the RX3 the #2 cam.

Does being at the very bottom of the #3 cam (the 3 cam being 28-31 actually help speed )

I was under the impression on how you stated it being closer to the top of the cam on the 2 would help, it's why I switched to a 2 cam.

I’m going to chalk it up to chrono readings varying and more than likely not giving you true accurate readings. On average you are getting about 6 fps faster speeds out of the RX3’s vs the RX1’s. Also as mentioned you may have the RX3 coming in lower in poundage and needs to be tweaked to get you up to peak weight for a fair comparison. For instance I’ve seen a few RX3 #3 cams coming in at 68# as did my personal. Then my #2 cam RX3 cam in at 72#.

As for tune

1)Pre lean with an arrow running down the left side of the cam having the right side of the shaft splitting the aimstring at nocking point.

2)nocking point level and I’m running the arrow slightly low in the Berger hole.

3)Cam synch top cam hitting a touch before the bottom.

4)Centershot 13/16

This should put you in the ballpark to start fine tuning from there.

Congrats ! Awesome bow

Being at the bottom of the cam should be slower than switching to the #2 and running at the top (where possible)

Thanks OT7 and Brendan.

Outside of the speed thing this bow has been extremely easy to get "right" and is a lot of fun to shoot.
