I found a '17 Carbon Defiant Turbo #3 cam for sale at a decent price. I am wondering what I will gain from a Turbo cam over regular cam setups? I am a 28.5 draw and usually pull 60-65 lbs, the bow has 70 lb limbs on it. I am mainly hunting out of a treestand most years in cold weather so I stay with lower poundage. My thought is that I would replace cams with a #2 cam with limb stops and possibly replace the limbs with 65 lb limbs. Thanks for any insight.

If you are looking for better performance out of the bow I would get the #2 cams on the bow. You will be gaining speed with the Turbo cam over the regular, but with that you are going to be losing comfort in the draw cycle. The speed you will gain by switching to the turbo cam can definitely help you in a tree stand by not letting anything have a chance to drop out of the way of your string. This would be a great combo with the fact that you are wanting to shoot lower poundage and you will be keeping decent speed depending on the arrow set-up you use. I personally recommend the Easton Axis arrow and if you are shooting that draw, poundage, and an aggressive cam bow you might find that they are going to serve you well. I hope that this helped and in the end choose what you want and what is comfortable for you.

Not sure how much it will cost to swap limbs and cams. Hope it was a good deal when you are all done.

I am 30 inch draw and have a 15 carbon spyder turbo and pro defiant 34. Turbo cams are faster but have very little valley. Quite jumpy. Non turbo is smoother with a longer valley. My turbo is 65 lbs and shoots a 440 grain arrow at about 285 fps. My 34 is 75lbs and shoots the same arrow at aboout 305 but has the extra poundage and axle length. Both bows pass through whitetails with ease so I don’t see a lot of value to whatever extra FPS one has over the other. I do find the 34 non turbo much, much better to shoot. I am a middling archer with only about 3 years of hunting and shooting under my belt so there are lots of more experienced voices on this forum the be heard. For my part, I don’t see myself going back to a turbo - just too sensitive and jumpy for limited speed gain.

Cams will cost around $120 for the set unless you can find used ones on ebay or AT. You will also need to replace the strings and cables when switching cams.

Are you looking to put regular #2 DFX cams on a Defiant Turbo? I just want to be clear if that’s what you’re thinking of doing.

Ok. If you’re a 28.5” draw a #2 Cam will only go to 28”. Also with the Defiant series if you chose to do that new limbs would also be a must. You would actually gain 10# with the Cam size change and the original limbs. And of course the string and cables changes as well. Just the limbs and cams alone will run you $350 plus. Quite honestly it’s not worth the cost. You’d be better off finding someone to sell it to or trade for what you’re looking to try and convert it to.

With a 28.5 inch draw, keep the cams you have. Take a couple turns out of the limb bolts and call it a day. What you are proposing would be spending money for no gain. You don’t lose anything turning down modern Hoyt limbs and some guys swear that you get better performance with turned down limbs vs lower weight maxed out limbs. Set it up, tune it, and shoot.

I shoot a CF Turbo with #2 cam. Mine comes out at 67 - 68# when fully cranked down (70 lb limbs). I wouldn't spend the money to switch everything out. I have 28.5 true draw, bought the #2 cam bc Hoyt actual draws are a hair long. So between the d-loop and extra draw I get to 28.5 perfectly. Changing cams, limbs, strings, and cables will not be cost effective. Throw me an offer for mine - even though I'm not in market to sell it, if you were willing to spend all that for one - your offer may entice me. Plus wouldn't have to ship it bc we are both in east IA.
