If you spot some elk back off the road and need to setup a spike camp to be where they are at first light how far do you setup your camp from where you expect them to be?
and do you try to camp above or below them?
Once I setup on the other side of the mountain from the spot I wanted to be in. It was a 1/2 mile hike to get to the top and cross the ridge then come down another half mile to catch them moving up into the dark timber to bed for the day. I thought that worked pretty good.
