Anyone pack a hot wire in ?
Curious about options for putting up a hot wire around camp. No so much to contain my animals but to keep out the wild ones. IE big bears.

Anyone got experience with a hot wire? Do they work? Or do they just give a sense of security for better night sleep. Would it be cheaper to take a teddy bear in for comfort?

Where are you hunting that you feel as though you need it?

We‘ve packed portable hot wire to graze stock, but never fir bears.

Understand the need, just never done it or hunted a place that it was necessary.

So far have not been where I need it. Planning to go to states where the grizzly are and was curious if it's worth looking into.

My cousin and uncle always pack them in when setting camp in the backcountry out of Jackson.

They work, yes, in the sense that they make a grizz think twice - and possibly slows em down - and also gives ya an alert (trip wire)

Batteries and weight are biggest downfall. Hafta pack in with animal

Llamas also do the same thing if you position around camp.

Any experience of actually having a bear get into them?
I've been told a little dab of bacon grease or tuna oil along the wire will make sure they come in nose first and send them off balling.
