Packing a hind quarter for miles can be hard work. But lifting one up to hang it isn’t that big of a deal.

With shoulder problems i was looking for pulley options and came across this . If no one is there to hold a leg this might work for holding it while quartering .
May not be for everyone but we have plenty of trees in N Idaho
and may help so one out.

Crap, by the time I do all that, I could have half the elk cut up. Carrying a hatchet and driving up to my elk is a pipe dream.
Wiser Precision has a new pulley deal out. They call it the zipper.

I'll stick to my friends inventions. And can be used for spotting tripod, shooting rest, walking sticks

Wanted to say that I bought a couple small packable pulleys with the idea on a solo field dressing I could rig it to a tree to help hold a leg, they haven’t come into the field with me yet. But could be a useful little tool. I think Nite-Ize made them

I carry one of those rock climber pullies but all I've ever used it for is tying on the end of my paracord to throw it over a high limb. ;)

Like I said just something to put in the memory bank. May come in handy for something someday.

A couple carabiners gives you a lot of mechanical advantage.

I carry 2 biners especially when solo, one with a nylon screen door wheel on it that probably gets me 300#s of force.

That is kinda neat. I understand the principles of leverage but question how big of a tree you would need for an elk to maintain that leverage.

I use an eight pulley block and tackle and hoist up a half at a time for quartering. It just makes it easier when you are alone. I made up a hoisting kit if anyone is interested.

Very cool! I'll continue to do it gutless on the ground, but that is pretty neat.
