I am back in the market shopping for a new pack. I always seem to have a hard time finding a pack that fits me. I have a tall torso and wear a size 38 or 40 pants. That being said I am running into problems finding a pack that the belt actually wraps around my hips/waist. How far do you guys prefer/want the padding on the hipbelt to wrap around? I tried a MR and a Stone Glacier but the padding seems to stop right at my iliac crest. To me I would think you would want it to wrap more to offer more padding when packing heavy loads and to ensure better weight transfer. Am I wrong in my thinking?

If the padding extends anteriorly, further than the front edge of the iliac crest (Anterior Superior Iliac Spine) it will just be compression abdominal soft tissue.

As long as it gets to the front edge of the pelvis, that's enough/plenty.
