Fairly new to mountain/backcountry camping. I am interested in Hilleberg tents, and have fallen into a blackhole of 'what the heck do I buy why do i keep changing my mind every time I go to their website..." It's a strange condition.

I hope to draw tags throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, etc. in the coming years for all manner of hunting. Fingers crossed.

For August to October, I assume a yellow label will work? For these states, when would yall draw a line in the sand and say Im taking a red lable this trip and not yellow.

Thanks in advance for the wisdom and advice.

A yellow label tent will hold up to a lot of inclement weather. You need to decide if you’re going to use a solo shelter or share with someone else. Also do you want to use a non freestanding tunnel tent or a freestanding shelter.

The easy button for probably the most versatile shelter they make, and also the easiest to use,
would be the Niak.

Can use in moderate winter conditions, warm autumn trips and even go floorless without the inner. Highly recommend this tent.

Thanks y'all. The Niak was at the top of my list for the yellow label.

I will use either label as a solo tent. The Nallo or Unna we're going to be my red label choice.

As a follow, are there months or times in specific states where you would not take the Niak?

The only time I don’t use the Niak is when I’m swapping to floorless with a stove for late season (mid November on). Even then, the Niak would probably be fine.

A Hilleberg rep unofficially told me yellow label tents would fail in ''significant'' snow buildup and 70+ MPH winds. Take that however you want.
