Herds now vs Sep.

Herds with say 50-100 elk cows and calves. Will they get broken up any by Sep. or will they remain the same?

You'll get immature bulls grabbing a few cows here and there in the beginning of Sept. until around the 18th when the first cows start coming into heat, Then the big guys take over. So in some areas they will get broken up.
