Just curious what everybody thinks on this. You get a critter down farther than you'd like to pack out solo on a hot day, etc. You recruit some help to get it out and on ice. How much meat is expected to be gifted to your packers? Whatever they pack out, x number of pounds of cut/wrapped goodies, random slabs of bloody meat, heart/liver or donating your time for a future packout for them? Thoughts?

On Deer, we used to give a deer ham on the spot. Let them do with it what they wish. On elk, that is a ton of meat, but a ton of work too :-)

When we're done I buy everyone dinner at the cheapest restaurant and the first round of drinks.. They'll eventually come over for dinner sometime too.

We usually help pack out each other's deer and elk just because we are friends and know that the favor will be returned sooner or later. But usually there is a cooler full of beer waiting and if the pack out is a tough one I have given up an elk backstrap or some steaks as well.

I have been following the motto if they pack it they get it.....in September I will typically need some help due to temps...come October/November not so rushed so can take my time if wanted....I figure if they are taking a day off and their time and as we know packing is typically difficult and can be a long day they deserve more than thank you.

Iv got a select few buddies that I call. I offer them whatever they want but they usually dont take any. Its a great group of guys and when you call they drop everything and come running, but in the same sense when they call me I dont hesitate to go help. Thats what hunting is all about.

Same here, my buddys are not for hire and don't expect meat in return but know i'll be there to return the favor no matter what.
