After our successful diy moose hunt this year its time to start planning our next adventure. Kicking around a couple options now.
Diy caribou hunt, but also just started thinking about working on a deer slam and trying a sitka blacktail on POW island.
Could anyone give me any advice? Is POW draw for blacktail or otc? What about black bear? I assume it is a draw for bear, but how long does it take to get one? Does Alaska have a preference point system?
As you can tell I haven't researched it much yet, but I know there is a lot of knowledgeable people on here that could give me a place to start.
Thanks

Kodiak for deer and you could do some fishing too. The deer are doing very well right now with the last few years of mild winters. No point system and the draw window opens soon.

Kodiak deer are doing very well this year. You see them running around town, they're so thick. A very nice buck ran in front of RC Enterprises a couple of nights ago. You can do road system deer and get one, or do a fly-in to the back slope of the island and do caribou and deer and nail three in short order. There's tons of well known spots, and many with F&WS cabins. Deadman's bay, Grants Lagoon, Old Harbor area, lake 629...

I'm happy to give you what I know on Alaska DIY caribou and black bear. PM me if you're interested. Never hunted deer there.

POW, unit 2, now draws black bear. Random with no point system. Its split between a spring (100 permits) and fall season (30 permits).
According to the 2016 draw data you have a 43% chance to draw a spring permit and a 26% chance to draw a fall permit. Fewer permits and more people trying to double up on bear and deer in the fall drives the low fall chances.

You can go with a guide an not need to draw. I don't know anything about that option.
