Help: Late Season Cow Elk

My usual back country elk hunt isn't going to take place this year. Between kids sports, a much awaited Illinois trip and that damn work thing that seems to always foul up my social calendar, I was beginning to think my chances of filling my freezer were slim this year. But I had a thought today, maybe I can slip in a late season cow hunt. Seems that would fit perfectly, I can make the run out west and back in a few days, the success rates are very good and the costs seem to be very reasonable. So.....I'm not looking for the hunt of a lifetime, bugling 350" bulls or no other hunters for miles. Simply looking to fill the freezer with a nice cow for a reasonable fee. If anyone knows of a high shot opportunity, reasonably priced ($500-1,000) private land opportunity for cow elk I'd be thankful for the advice.

I'd be willing to swap a Louisiana whitetail and bonus bacon hunt in Louisiana for a hunt, or maybe some pointers on where not to hunt in Colorado, or who knows what else. Thanks in advance!

You can try Craigslist. I have some friends who hunt 3rd season on private land in Buena Vista but they were skunked last season since we didn't have enough snow in the mountains to push them down. Also, find out if there is a deer hunt going on the same time you plan to go. I was talking with a rancher from Buena Vista who wanted a grand for a cow elk tag. He told me he already had 15 deer hunters on his 300 acres. That's more people than I wanted to deal with and we snagged 2'nd season leftover rifle cow tags. I'd keep an eye out for those as well.
