Help- Hoyt Ventum Pro 30 Jumps off Backwall

Hey everyone,

I’ve been struggling with the back wall feel on my Ventum Pro 30 and could use some experienced input.

I shoot a 27" draw length, and I’ve already done some troubleshooting with my local shop. The bow is perfectly in spec — timing checked, everything on point. To try to tame the jumpy feel, we did the following:

  • Reduced let-off 85% to 80% (helped a little, but not enough)
  • Checked timing and cam sync (everything good)
  • Added ¼” to draw length (no change)
  • Played with stabilizer weight (didn't help much)

Despite all that, at full draw it still feels like the bow wants to go unless I’m really pulling really hard into the wall. If I relax even slightly, and sit in the pocked to let my pin float and go through the shot sequence it surges forward. That hard constant tension is messing with my consistency and shot execution, and to be honest at this point getting in my head..

I’ve read that the HBX Pro cam has a short valley, but I didn’t expect it to be this sensitive and none of the reviews I can find even slightly mention this.

Out of curiosity, I shot an Hoyt Alpha X 2 at the shop right after — back to back and it was night and day. It settled in beautifully at full draw without feeling like I had to fight it.

I haven’t tried adding heavier limbs, but my understanding is that would mostly increase holding weight, not fix the underlying valley/back wall feel. My goal is to have a back wall that lets me settle in, not constantly fighting it wanting to jerk forward.

My current setup:

  • Hoyt Ventum Pro 30
  • 27” draw
  • 70 lb limbs
  • Black Gold Mountain Lite Ascent 5 pin
  • Hoyt Shorty Stabilizer
  • Hoyt Ultralight Quiver
  • Victory Vap TKO or Easton Axis 4mm match grade cut to 26"
  • Let-off reduced from 85% to 80% (as stated above)
  • Timing confirmed good
  • Draw length tested at stock and +¼”
Question for everyone:
Has anyone successfully tamed this “jumpy” feeling on the Ventum Pro or any other bows with this issue without switching bows? Is there a tuning tweak or limb stop setup that made a real difference for you? Or is this just the nature of the HBX Pro cam and I should make the jump to a different platform like the AX-2 or a Mathews?

Thanks in advance for any insight — This one has me and the shop scratching our heads.. worse case the 2026's are coming out soon!

Edit: For context I've also shot plenty of bows (Hoyt, Matthews, PSE, Bear) and this is the first I've experienced it with.

It sounds like you are checking the right things, but what was the holding weight?

Going from 80 to 85 is usually going to increase the Valley and make it less jumpy. You went backwards of that.

Increasing the DL if its too long is going to have you fighting it as well.

What is the actual measured DL and holding/peak?

Increase letoff will increase valley, possibly too long on draw length. Make sure mod settings and draw stops match, and timing on a binary type cam needs to be near perfect so double check it.

Case closed fellas. Increased letoff to 85% and shortened my draw length by 1/2" inch... Like I'm shooting a new bow. Thanks all!
