Hello everyone, I'm a long time avid outdoorsman just getting into hunting. Squirrels a few years ago and hopefully whitetail next Fall. I'm located in the Shenandoah Valley and hope to be hunting public land and friends' farms. Figure I've got a year to get my act together, so I'm here to learn.

Welcome aboard. I'm in NoVa. I'm a late onset deer hunter myself, so enjoy the ride. As another late-onsetter, the only tips I can offer:

#1 "Buy once, cry once" on hunting gear. Better to invest in a few pieces of high-quality gear, rather than accumulate stuff you'll try to dump in 2 years. This goes for backpacks, weapon, clothing, and optics (see below)
#2 Merino is the shiznit. For real.
#3 Good optics really matter.

Welcome aboard!

Hello in the valley. Have a good year of preparations. A lot to be learned here and much of the “western tactics” can be applied around here. But eventually you should go apply them at high altitude.
Good luck!
