Heavy barrel

Does anyone have any input on a 27 inch mtu contour barrel for a long range hunting rig that doesn't get carried more than a mile or should I go with a rem varmint contour

For hunting purposes the MTU is a chunk.
Rem Varmint or sendero will get it done just fine and save some poundage if the walk gets farther than anticipated.

a 27” MTU barrel is gonna be like 8 pounds on its own. No animal hunting situation necessitates that heavy a barrel.

I am doing and have done a couple rifles as switch barrels with a heavy MTU type taper for paper punching and most of my shooting and then swap on a carbon barrel of same taper for hunting. Lots cheaper to wear out the all steel barrel

MTU could be ok, but I'd flute the snot out of it!
