What are you guys using and liking?

Planning on doing a little more bird hunting (upland and grouse) in 2026, and would like to get some active hearing protection.

I picked up some Axil's last year and immediately returned them, I was not impressed especially given their price.

Probably unrealistic to expect something to last in the rainforest, but something at least reasonably durable and waterproof would be nice.

I use custom made ear plugs from a company I met at Dallas Safari Club convention a few years ago. They work perfect, but they should because they are pricey. Company is Tactical Hearing for search purposes.

I have some custom Ear Inc. ones that work great, other than they go through batteries pretty quickly.

I like the peltor in ear myself. I can crank up the sound magnification and still get great noise canceling.

I have custom poured silicone and acrylic plugs as well...but I prefer the peltor as I don't lose hearing abilities... the acrylic would be my second choice if you're going the custom route.

I run Westone defendear/cens units. Not cheap, but I like that I can replace the ear PCs when they don’t fit anymore. Also modules can be swapped out if there is a failure. Hearing aid batteries, so like all zinc air batteries only last 3-5 days after opening, no matter the usage.

I have really liked the Decibulz molded ones as well. Not super expensive and no batteries to worry about. You can still hear what’s going on and have conversations, especially in the duck blind, while still having good protection.

They are not electronic, so don’t amplify sounds, but still give good hearing at a decent price.
