The folks over at Hawkins Precision have given me a muzzle brake to review. Hawkins Precision is a Rokslide Sponser and has been a great addition.

Hawkins sent me an Updraft Muzzle Brake in .30 cal with 5/8x24 threading. I will be doing some testing on my 7 SAUM with a proof 24", sendero profile, carbon barrel. The rifle sits in an XLR Magnesium chassis.

First impressions are positive with a machined out front to allow for easy accurate torque.

Hit me up here if you have any questions.

I’m shopping for a muzzle brake for a 7PRC AND 6.5CM.
What’s the shot concussion like from the shooters perspective?
How does it compare with other brakes you have?
Thanks!

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet, planning on getting started on Monday.

I've got about 50 rounds from the 6.5prc and am planning on putting it on a 7SAUM soon. So far, it is a really nice brake!

I bought one that I swapped out with my APA little bastard Gen 3. The updraft was 20 fps slower and definitely more noticeable recoil. Curious of other folks experience.

Interesting. Never heard of a brake impacting velocity. Dont understand how that's possible?

Not sure how that works either, but there was definitely a difference. This was on my NRL hunter rifle and running the same load I ran all season with well documented velocity.

I don’t know about FT/S but it should be more recoil as APA has a very steep blast angle and sends a lot of percussion back to shooter. The updraft is designed to not drive a significant amount of percussion back at the shooter.

It’s a trade off percussion/sound vs recoil. That APA break is one of the loudest on market which means one of best at recoil reduction

Put a few more through with the 7 SAUM last weekend.

I did not notice a velocity difference with the APA and the hawkins brake. The APA is definitely louder and less jump, but I was still able to spot impacts.

The concussion is pointed out away from my position behind the gun, which is a lot more "pleasant" (how pleasant is a brake anyway 🤣) to shoot.
