This is kind of hunting related but probably a bit off topic for this forum.
I'd like to take my wife to Hawaii (married 2 yrs and no honeymoon), maybe in February and was wondering if anyone has some suggestions.
Ideally it would be on your typical resort with pool, spa, beach and dining options. Maybe some day trip options, hikes, sightseeing, etc.
Finally, I would like to sneak away for a day and go goat hunting while she has a spa day, I see there are different outfitters that offer this.
Anyone happen to have suggestions for which island, resort, or outfitter?
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Todd I'll see if I can get in touch with him.
Mjm316, to be honest I don't know....these beach vacations aren't really my thing but she deserves it. I'm usually planning backpacking trips for us, already have a canoe trip planned for this summer but these resort vacations aren't my thing.

I went to college in O'ahu for 5 years and visited the big island and Maui once. It really depends on what you want man. O'ahu has the touristy things to do in Honolulu and Waikiki. You can always get away from the hustle and bustle by going to the east side or north side. If your not afraid of water, Hanauma bay is a great attraction with a lot of very tame fish (no fishing allowed). The north shore of O'ahu will most likely be flat with few waves during the summer time, but the garlic shrimp trucks are a must to stop by in Kahuku. The west side of O'ahu is also beautiful but can be sketchy if you are of lighter skin color.

If you're going to the Big Island, Kona (southwest side) has some tourist areas but you can drive around Big Island and it's beautiful. Maui is also a nice place to visit that offers tourist areas in Kihei, but the drive through Hana (very windy road but beautiful mountain drive) is worth it. Pm me or ask any questions. I can point you in some restaurant places as well if you need food suggestions. Have fun!

I was lucky enough to go about 10 years ago and would love to get back. We went to Maui and there would definitely be some things I would do again. 1) the bike ride down Mt. Haleakalā. You go up before sunrise and then watch the sun come up over the volcano. It was really amazing. 2) We went snorkeling at a little park called Makena Landing Park. It was free and the best snorkeling I have ever experienced.

We also did the road to Hana and I would like to try that again too. Can't help you with the hunting piece though it was my understanding that there were some guided pig hunts.

Hope your trip works out.

I'll second contacting Ryan. He seems to be a bit scarce these days, but he's the man. My Wife and I hunted Maui for axis and did extremely well, but it wasn't a resort. It was more like sleeping in a ranch house in the middle of nowhere with solar and generator power, but that was fine by us.

Funny...I was just looking in to the same thing for my wife and I. She does not hunt, but would be a pretty good compromise for trip to Hawaii. I also found that there is pretty good mule deer hunting on Catalina island, which may be another option.

Lots of good info, thank you!
Thinking maybe Maui might work, found a resort in Kaanapali that looks to be an hour from the Maui hunting safari outfitters.
I will send some emails out to try and get info.
Jaguigui, I will likely be in touch if I figure out where we are going to go.

I live on Oahu, and have been to each of the major islands. I have hunted Oahu, the Big Island, and Molokai. If you are looking at goats, each island has them for the DIYer. Axis Deer are on Molokai, Lanai, and Maui. For your case, Maui would be your best bet as it has the resorts, and they have several outfitters. Maui definitely has DIY as well, but you have to be looking at Private Land for best choices.

My wife and I just got back from Maui. Our first visit to Hawaii. We had a great time. We met some friends from Canada there who booked a two bedroom condominium through Costco. The condo was a short walk from the private beach, maybe 3 - 5 minutes tops. The house was great and very clean. We had all the cooking supplies and dishes that we needed. A trip to the grocery store and we had things for breakfast and lunches. Usually ate out for dinner but did cook steaks on night at the condominium. It really cut down on expenses. The rooms, beds, and everything was superb. They even had a cooler in the condominium that we could use to pack out lunches in to keep drinks and sandwiches cold when we left to do things.

Coconuts is a must go experience for dinner. They are famous for their fish tacos. You get two and one is all I could eat. I would get the order and just share unless you are really hungry! They are huge and have 17 ingredients on them! Price is outstanding too. http://www.coconutsfishcafe.com/home

Cafe O' Lei : Man this was great too. Price was very reasonable also. Had Mahi Mahi and shrimp oh MY! Not far from Coconuts in Kihei also. http://www.cafeoleirestaurants.com/maui/

Mama's which is over east of the airport on the beach is superb too. It sits right on the beach. The atmosphere is fantastic as is the food. Really cool place and the food was great. I suggest reservations for this one. They stay really busy! Price for four of us for dinner was around $300.00 but it was well worth it. http://www.mamasfishhouse.com/

Kihei Cafe for breakfast in Kihei. We never made this one but heard it is fabulous.

Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt hotel. Man this was fantastic. Great food and the entertainment was excellent. (808) 661-1234 I think it was about $90.00 per person but it was well worth it. The food was really good. It was wild boar cooked in a underground pit and was fabulous. The Luau itself was great and they put on a fabulous show. http://www.mauiactivities.com/activ...-the-Pacific?gclid=CN3MqM6X-cwCFYVrfgodZR0BLw

Four Winds with CAPTAIN JOHN We went snorkling with him. I think his ship holds about 60 people. We did the morning trip and they had breakfast - muffins, fruit , juice, etc. They also fed us lunch. Chicken and burgers, hot dogs. It was a lot of fun and well worth it also. Saw some sea turtles which was cool. http://www.fourwindsmaui.com/

Hope this helps!!!

I literally just got back from Maui on Sunday. That was my third time. I will go again in July of next year for my fourth. I'm fortunate enough that my parents bought a time-share on Ka'anapali. They go every year and have become quite the experts.

As far as hunting goes, I have no experience, but by staying in Maui you have access to Moloka'i and Lanai'i. Our guide on the road to Hana is a native Hawaiian and they all hunt with dogs for wild pigs with a knife. That might be a rush. If you chose to go fishing, the guys at Start me up out of Lahaina did me good. I flew out of Missoula and the guy in front of me was going to Maui too and had a bone fish fly fishing excursion planned. We flew back together and said he didn't really need a guide. It was on a flat that was by a pier that was easy to get to and they just waded out into the water.

I will second Mama's Fish House. Its the best restaurant on Maui. Google their Black Pearl dessert and you'll see what kind of care they put into food. Our server two years ago told us that there were two employees who's job was to crack coconuts for the water and meat. Its an incredible place. Valet parking ONLY. Ask for Jensen, if available, when you make the reservation. Ask him how he got his name. Its a great story and he's a very personable guy. We do it our last day there and then head to the airport for the red eye back. Also in Paia is Willy Nelson's bar and Gene Simmon's bar, next to each other. I could recommend a ton of other restaurants if you need them. Cheeseburger in Paradise for a great burger. If you have personalized lic. plates take your old ones and they will put them on the ceiling. My brother's are above the bar. They were actually sued by Jimmy Buffet....and won.

As far a luau's go, my parents are in the Marriott, which is right next to the Hyatt that 6mm talked about. We have never been to that one even though its next door. I've been to both the Old Lahaina Luau and the Feast de Lele. The first is a buffet with a bunch of authentic Hawaiian food. And you get to watch them un-bury the pig, watch someone make poi and other things. The Second is a 4 course meal and feels a little more intimate. My mom likes Feast d' Lele, my dad old Lahaina.

Road to Hana is awesome. Take a tour if you want to look around alot and have a guide. I don't remember who we went with, but PM me and I'll find out. Ask for Kione. He knows everyone. Literally. You eat at his "auntie's" house/food truck. The food was amazing there. There are some hiking trails on the road. I haven't been on any, but Google hiking trails in Maui and you can find out what's available. By doing the road the Hana yourself, you can stop at more places and all the waterfalls as well as the 7 pools and swim and all the hiking trails. Or take the tour and go back another day. They do nickname it the Divorce highway for all the one lane bridges and sharp curves you go around.

If you go, go to Honolulu the first day and then fly to another island for the rest of your stay. That way you can go to Pearl Harbor(plan a whole day) and you get out of the city to the quainter islands. My first time I went Maui-Honolulu. Big disappointment to get out of the airport to big city.

Beaches. See a bunch of them. I really like Napili bay. Black Rock by the Sheridan on Ka'anapali has great snorkeling. The Molikini crater for snorkeling or take a snorkeling excursion to Lanai'i. Mekena state park has a great beach. Nicknamed Big Beach it has a long beach. For a smaller, quainter beach, go up the trail over the cinder cone and go to...Little Beach. Feel free to warn your wife before hand, or don't, that it is Maui's only clothing optional beach.

Buy the book, Maui Revealed. Its a great resource and tells you all you need to know about the island and what to do and where to go. I cannot stress this enough.

I love Maui. You live on Maui time over there. It gets in your soul.

Grant @ 1shotgear just got back from a DIY goat hunt in Maui and said it was a blast. I'm sure he'd be willing to share some insight if you shoot him a PM.

i'm originally from the Big Island and it has the most public lands, some great archery areas but they're getting a lot of heat from enviros. Still some good hunting and if you wanted to go guided some great private land hunting. Lot's of bird hunting from nov-jan too, turkey season in the spring. Lots of resorts on the west side and hunting is right above on the mountains up there, plus the volcano to see, pretty diverse island. Good luck.
