I normally go out into the field with my Christensen Ridgeline rifle, but tempted to take my Sig Cross (6.5 creed) out this year since it's more compact on my pack.

Has anyone had any experience using their Sig Cross hunting elk, mule deer and/or white tail? If so, I'd love to hear your take. More-so, which caliber Cross you used (barrel length if not factory length), species' hunted and at what range did you took the shots.

Thank you for your time and input.

I have both calibers in factory configurations. I'll try to summarize what information I think you want below.

Cow elk 200 yards with 308 - 151 Absolute Hammer 2850 MV. Traveled approximately 75 yards and expired. Shot through front shoulder, and exited through offside shoulder.

Cow elk 300 yards with 308- 151 Absolute Hammer 2850 MV. DRT heart shot.

Doe Antelope 400 yards 6.5 CM - 143 Eldx 2620 MV. DRT heart shot

Doe Antelope 650 yards 6.5 CM - 143 Eldx 2620 MV. DRT Infront of rear leg.

Buck Antelope 425 Yards 6.5 CM - 143 Eldx 2620 MV through front shoulder, exit offside backside lung. DRT

Whitetail Doe 50 yards 6.5 CM - 143 Eldx 2620 MV through front shoulder exit through off side lung. DRT

Whitetail Doe 455 yards 6.5 CM - 143 Eldx 2620 MV Heart shot broadside, 75 yards

Feral hog 75 yards 308 - 110 Vmax DRT Unsure of MV, I'd guess around 3100 or so.

Nothing wrong with the sig cross. It's a good gun. I don't know what your ridgeline is chambered in, but I would suggest a stronger caliber than 6.5 creed for elk. I have seen way too many wounded bulls from 6.5 creed. 6.5 PRC at least, if not something with more energy. Make it a no doubter with the damage from the bullet, rather than having to rely on a perfect shot.

For more info on the Sig Cross check out the Backfire Youtube Channel. He has some good info and is one of his tip picks for his personal rifles. The Cross is one of his favorites.

Check out Elk101 on Youtube. Cory has a Sig Cross and although rifle is not his thing. He likes the Sig Cross and both he and his son have shot Elk with it.

If the Sig Cross came in 6.5 PRC I think I would have one. My Browning X Bolt is right on the money with factory ammo. 147 ELDM is the favorite. The 6.5 PRC Shooter page on facebook is full of Elk being taken. I know there is some controversy with the 6.5. But Moose have been taken for decades in Europe with a 6.5

What state do you live in dude?

I'm not a big .308 fan even though I have owned several, but I absolutely love my Cross in .308 with factory 16" barrel. I bought it mostly for the kids to use, but I killed a small 3x3 mule deer this year at just under 500 yards on a backpack hunt.

Rifle was a joy to carry, even though it was heavy with everything that I added. Balance is great so it feels lighter than it actually is. I've carried lighter rifles like Tikkas and a Kimber too.

I'm not anti-6.5mm but wanted the shorter barrel on the .308 since I am using a can. And I'm under 6'! Handy rifle with different carry positions. Folded, it fit in my pack which was handy.

It's a rock solid rig and is always with me on any hunt these days. Even when im elk hunting with my 28nos, i have my cross in my truck for backup. - matt

Carried my .308 Cross for my 2021 elk/mulie hunt with 165gr Nosler Trophy Grade. Dropped a buck in his tracks at 307 yards and shot a bull at ~250 who only ran a few yards. Great western hunting rig as far as I'm concerned.

I've hunting two whitetail seasons with my Cross in .308. I'm in New England and do a lot of still hunting in dense, steep forests. With a suppressor the guns carries really well with my hand just in front of the mag well. I have killed two bucks with it, each dropped in their tracks. It's a good gun, and I still like it, but it has quirks. I can only get 1.5 MOA out of it, but maybe that's on me. Also, there are a few details that were done better on the Q Fix, (safety selector, trigger, overall build quality). Hope this helps.
