Anybody still using them?
Thought about a garmin etrex or similar. Something under $400.00

But, onx has backcountry for $30.00. I mostly hike, Little camping, backpacking. More to follow established trails.
Stick with a phone and onx? The handheld is more of a want than need.

I still carry a Garmin Montana. Onx is excellent, but even when I use offline maps with my phone, the App will restart and take a while to reload the maps. My Garmin is by far more cold-weather tolerant compared to my phone.

Yep, Garmin Oregon 650T is always with me. Take that, my iPhone with OnX, and my Garmin Fenix 6x Pro. Impossible for me to get lost or not find where I’m looking for. Occasionally I’ve got a Suunto M9 compass on the other wrist. Helps me navigate in the dark when I’m just looking to find a direction and go.

I no longer carry my handheld GPS. I remember sitting on a ridge back in the mid 90s with some items pulled out my pack to get to my lunch. Laying there was a flashlight, camera, radio and gps. Me and my hunting bud laughed when I mentioned maybe someday all these devices would be in one device like Star Trek. We laughed as he said that we would probably be long dead before they had a gizmo such as that. The thought of that seems so outrageous.
