Grizzlys and weather in Yellowstone

Be bear aware and understand that hanky panky actions are a no-no in bear country. Regardless of honey moon
Actually that's wrong. Lost of action equals noise which keeps the bears away. So have lots of honeymoon sex. You're keeping the bears away. Now if she moans at the right pitch you might accidently attract a big foot......

But seriously. I live in bear country. Read countless things each year about living/hiking/camping in bear country and never heard no hanky panky. Where are you getting this from?

What kind of a monster are you!?!?!

Clearly this is an area of disagreement, legend and folk lore. To solve it once-for-all I recommend that rokslide commence a multi-year, funded, scientifically sound statistical analysis of this issue.

Have had it freeze hard right on shore of Yellowstone Lake in early August, so be ready for freezing temps. Would still suggest a 2-3 man tent for bugs/warmth--one that you can take the rainfly off of (pretty standard) if nice night and not too cold. A tarp for rain/sun shelter is always nice. There are some fairly cheap ones made of of the cheaper silnylon out there that are very lightweight.

I would definitely have both of you carry a large cannister size of bear spray, know how to use it and be aware of it's shortcomings. I back that up with a powerful handgun. Good to have options. My understanding is that the National Parks now fall under the purview of which ever state they are in in terms of concealed carry and open carry. Look it up, but I believe Wyoming is an open carry state. Not all of Yellowstone is in Wyoming. I'll be there in July/August and plan on open carrying in the back country and concealed carry otherwise. You will need a concealed carry permit that's good in Wyoming to carry concealed there. A Utah permit has reciprocity as I understand it.

There are quite a few bear fences out there so do some research. Some of them are not very heavy and people backpack with them. I think I'd gravitate towards the ones that look like netting--seems like less chance of something getting through that. Generally, if women feel more secure, life is better...

I think the back country hanky panky and bears concern is equivocal. I've done some research and one writer says it's an issue. Another quotes the first writer and says that's hogwash and that there's no clear evidence. Take precaustions and have a good time! :)

Urban legend with no basis in fact yet lives on.

In fact it can't be proved or dismissed. But, anyone that has been around a male animal, with a women on her cycle, knows that they can smell it and, some get rather riled up by doing so. You take that for what you will. I did.
