Grease for bolt action

Hey what’s up everyone. Looking for a good grease for my rifles. I’ve been reading some reviews that some have a strong scent. Is this something to be concerned about while hunting? Is there a scent free grease you guys can recommend?

Where are you hunting: Very wet cold with ice, very hot dusty, very wet tropical? I usually hunt hot dry climates sometimes very dusty: I use a dry bolt, wipe all the storage oil off with a cloth and smear a very small amount of PTFE general purpose grease on the rear locking surfaces of the lugs. Nothing fancy just grease that comes in a tub from the auto store.

If your downwind you should be good.

I wouldn't worry about the scent in the least, your feet and mouth are probably greater offenders.

The stuff I use is Shooter's Choice or something similar

TW25B grease. It comes in a syringe or a tube. The syringe is very handy. They have an oil, too. I use the grease on the lugs and the oil on the bolt body. You can work the grease with your fingers and use it on the bolt body, too, if you just want to get one of them.

Odor in a tiny dab of gun grease would be on the low end of my concerns. If the wind isn't in your favor, your cover is blown, gun grease or no.

I run my guns dry during the hunting season

Damn close to dry for me too. Maybe a slight oil residue of what didn’t get wiped off. My bolts work smooth enough and I don’t run them like bearings.

I do use anti-seize on my ML breach plug. Never worried about a critter smelling it.
