After just two seasons, YoungWild made it to the final three nominees for Best Outdoor Show, along with Uncharted and Driven. For season three, it was picked up by Outdoor Channel, which has 10 times the viewership of Sportsman's Channel, where it has been.

I met Jim and Lincoln Tapp on a bear hunt a while back and we become great friends. I did the interview of them for the Season One Finale.

I just flew to Oklahoma where we began production on the first two episodes of Season Three. I am conducting an interview again, combined with an update on the first 16 animals Lincoln has taken toward the North American 29 (Super Slam). He aspires to be the youngest archer to accomplish this feat.

Though he is only 14 and makes his share of young mistakes, he is the most grounded passionate knowledgeable respectful and humble young archer I have ever known.

The production quality of the show, from the photography, cinematography, music, editing ,honesty, narration, ImageUploadedByTapatalk1456669142.134601.jpg and storyline are simply amazing. The show begins airing in July.

I've been extremely impressed in the way Lincoln conducts himself. Seems like a great kid!

Honestly, he really is that impressive. I have spent a lot of time with their family and am really impressed with them all. He had so many special needs that he was about to be kicked out of school. His parents started home schooling and that, combined with his pursuits in archery have completely transformed him. He is very intelligent, but just didn't "fit" with the traditional school system.

Anxious to check the show out. They used to offer the older episodes on their website, but not anymore.

I wish Direct TV would get the Outdoor channel on the rest of their choices other than the "everything" option. I'm not picking that option just for one channel. And I'm about to drop them altogether because they keep raising the price and never say a thing about it until I get my CC bill.

You can actually call directv and pay like $3 a month to add the outdoor channel. You don't need the full premium package.

I don't mean any disrespect to the kid but how is he affording these hunting trips? Mom and Dad?

This is why these kinds of things like the super slam just dont impress me. Anyone can buy it if they have the desire and cash. I am not saying I wouldnt love the opportunity but I just dont see it as that great of an accomplishment. Its like a garage full of super cars, you just had to pony up the cash to get them. I am way more impressed with a person that can take a big mule deer/elk DIY every year.

There are a lot of the animals on the super slam that you can't do DIY. It's not like he just drives up a road and shoots a dall sheep.

I don't know if I would say a lot, there are some. I also don't think any sheep hunt outside of some chamois hunts I've seen where they drive up and shoot.

More power to the young man, I just can't imagine that he understands the gravity of what he is trying to do, and the amount of money it costs. I wish it was just a hunting show and not about attaining the super slam, I've not watched a lot of it but just my thoughts.

Lincoln's father was adopted. He grew up on a farm and became financially successful in land development and brokering, working primarily with Walmart. I have found the whole family to be very grateful, humble and hard working...not to mention very generous with others.

I am pretty careful critiquing wealth because it is so relative. Some look at the cost of my bow and can't believe I have the money to afford that. The quality of our character and purity of our pursuits is much more important than dollar signs.

As far as the Super Slam goes, think of how many wealthy hunters there are and how few have completed the Slam. It is extremely difficult in time, energy, focus, etc--it takes years and years and many times multiple hunts to acquire a single species. For a father and son to bond over this and persevere thru challenging teen years is such a cool endeavor is exemplary to me.

Also, the profit from the show itself almost pays for all the hunts. Pretty wise use of funds if you ask me. I wish I could do that.

The last time I asked them this question they laughed at me. I'm gonna have to call them and drop down to the basic package and add a couple channels to that. I'd guess there are only about 15 channels that I ever watch, but most of those are on the mid package.

As for the hunting show, I've watched a couple of them. But I'm all about elk when turning on the hunting shows so don't watch many of them.

I switched from DirecTV to cable and it was stuipid. My bill is much cheaper but my wife and kids constantly gripe. Some things are worth what you pay for them. Peace and quiet just to mention a few.... :)

I think I have the package one below the top one with all the channels, so may be able to do it with a lower package as well.

What, you don't like to see people in a tree stand talking for a half hour, before arrowing a high fence buck? Sheesh.

I especially love the bird hunting shows that are supposed to be about dogs. And they just sit in a duck blind and don't show any retrieves. I personally love to see dogs work. Or the shows that are about a group of friends, and they show them hunting for 2 minutes, but high fiving eachother and playing dress up the rest of the time(Buck Commander/The Crush/Bone Collector). Or one with a crazy old dude....okay...he's good for some entertainment value. You just can't look away.

I personally DVR Meateater, Fresh Tracks, Wardens, Lindner's Angling Edge(I've always loved those guys, but I so appreciate the Bible devotion at the end of every show), and in-fisherman. I only watch fishing shows that I feel are educational.

I get that; I feel the same. But YoungWild has none of the bad characteristics you mentioned. Just want to "defend" it a bit.

Sorry, I missed the lack of an "s" on the end of hunting show. I thought 5miles was refering to all hunting shows. Not this one only. Show/Shows. Makes a little bit of difference there. Sorry. I have not seen this show. I'll look for it though. I just got the Sportsman's channel back last week, so if it was on there, I was unable to watch it.(I had it, but then added HBO to watch game of thrones, when I called to cancel HBO after it was over, they took away the Sportsman's channel. They finally just gave it back to me.)

I too was impressed when I met Lincoln last year and I wish him the best!

Money won't buy you a super slam, and I laugh at those that think that's what it takes. It's one aspect of the journey. Last I checked, you still have to kill each of the animals with an arrow, which means getting to where they are and for many even that is asking too much.
