Hey Guys- I’m really wanting to buy myself a new gun for Christmas this year and I’m wanting to get a 10mm for some self protection when backpacking / hunting. I just wondered if anybody had tried these two guns and if so what are your thoughts? I would be looking at the Glock 20 or the XDM in 5.25”. I already have an older XDM but in a .40 cal and love the double safety feature. Also owned some glocks in the past and like them as well. Just wanting to hear some thoughts /opinions from those that may have used either of these. Thanks in advance.

I know this is the internet so you're going to find this hard to believe and many people will think I'm totally evil for saying this: They are both good guns and you'll be good with whichever you choose!

i just sold my glock 20sf in 10mm. frankly i don't like the larger frame size. have a g35 in .40 and with some of the hotter factory loads i'm not feeling too undergunned. and it fits my hands way better.

I'm a big Glock fan and a big 10mm fan. I admit I've got some Glock bias. Between myself, my Dad and my brother, we've got 3 Glocks in 10mm. A model 29, a model 20 and a model 40. All have aftermarket recoil springs, triggers and tritium sights. I really like my model 29 a lot for hunting.

Also, we've got an XD in 9mm and an XDS in 45. Both shoot well and I really like the safeties. However, I vastly prefer the grip on the Glocks and feel I shoot the Glocks better.

Like I said, I've got a lot of Glock bias, but I feel that's well deserved based on using a bunch of Glocks and all of them performing flawlessly. That said, I think Springfield makes a good pistol, I just don't like it as much as I like Glocks.

XD's feel and shoot great but they tend to have reliability issues when ran hard and the mags can NOT handle getting dirt or gunk in them. I'm personally not a fan of the grip safety on XDs either but that's unlikely to cause a serious issue...unless it does.

Have had both brands in 9mm and 45ACP, have only had a Glock in 10mm (G20), which I still own. In fact, I still own all of my Glocks I have ever purchased and do not own either of the Springfield XD's I had at one time. Pick what suits you best, thats just my experience with both.

Interesting...the XD that I carry every day, shoot a LOT, and never clean would disagree with that assessment.

My Glock would probably agree with you, but he sits in the safe most of the time so I don't listen to him!

Thanks for the input from all of you. So far I’ve never had issues with my XD40 and I personally like the double safety. I know it’s not much of a valid arguement, but I feel “safer” having a second safeguard to prevent accidental firing. And for some reason, Glocks haven’t fit my hand great but I haven’t shot one in over 10 years. Not to change subjects, but would those of you that shoot the 10mm ever replace it with a 45 Super? I thought I was sold on the 10mm but a buddy suggested that this might be another good option for the backcountrymy fear is finding ammo might be hard if not impossible. Thanks for the input and discussion. Keep it coming.

Springfields fit me better....although I have never tried the 10mm. Reliability issues when ran hard? 10's of thousands of rounds thru several different XD models, XDS, XD Mod2 3", XD Mod 2 5" Tactical, with no issues. I'm sure I could pull the numbers thru each if you would like.

No. I would not switch from 10mm to 45 Super. It's hard enough to find decent ammo on the shelves for the 10mm. I don't usually care, since I reload for my 10mm. I do like knowing that I could get ammo from a store if needed.

Springfield XD for sure....why?

The Seals went to a SA XD

Delta force guys use the XD

The 75th Ranger regiment and special forces went to XD

^^NOT^^^. They all use Glocks!

Seriously though.........shoot what feels the best to you.

Personally, the XD's are OK....but I prefer the lower bore axis pistols; Glocks, M&P's

The internet cannot stand that level of indifference or objectivity. Stop it.

Have both, shoot both...alot, love BOTH. I tend to lean toward my Glocks but that's just this month, next month will probably be the xdm's

I've never shot a Glock, but I own a few XD models and have shot them a lot. I know the following deviates from the typical Glock vs XD debate, but thought I would throw it out there for people to consider:

I've moved on to CZ P07's with their DA/SA hammer fired system. CZ pistols are famous for how well they fit your in hand, and they are quite accurate out of the box. They are very safe to carry with the hammer down in DA mode, and are reliable to deploy in a high stress situation since no safety is needed and all you do is squeeze the trigger for that first shot. Super simple! Follow-up shots are in SA mode and are thus fast and accurate.

I’ve sold all my glocks to buy more CZ’s, unfortunately they don’t make a 10mm. I still carry a 75 compact almost daily but have been thinking about grabbing a lightweight g20 again for backwoods use.

Why not at p220 10mm? I have both glock and the xd and they shoot good but my 220 10mm shoots better but it’s heavy when compared to the other two

10mm won't happen for CZ....it huwts their widdle euro hands.....kidding..... not much interest for 10mm in the European countries.

Other options;

Dan Wesson owned by CZ can be found in 10mm....and Tanfoglio makes a 10mm [these will be like 1911 clones]

I've got a couple of each in various calibers and bought a Glock 40 in 10mm a few months back. Shoots great but the long barrel makes me feel like I am swinging a golf club. For me, the Glock tends to fit in my hand better than the XDM but I still like them both. Really hard to go wrong with either.

I just wanted to thank everybody for their insights, thoughts, and opinions on this topic. As luck would have it, all my saved money for the gun will now be going to a new furnace rather than my toy. Oh the joys of home ownership. Anyway, guess I’ll be carrying my XD40 with Buffalo Bore one more year. Here’s to hoping it will keep me out of a pickle. Thanks again everybody!!

I found the G20 to be too big & cumbersome so I sold it & got a G29. A KKM barrel & 22lbs recoil spring and it eats bear loads all day. The XD,s are good guns, they just don't feel right in my hands, in fact I perfer M&Ps over Glocks but they don't make a 10mm.
