I purchased a tent footbed for a tarp. They already have grommets on them so there is plenty of places to attach cord or spikes, however you want to set it up. It's extremely light weight and you can get the size you think you might need. I keep it in my pack just in case I get caught out overnight, in a horrible rain, or as in your case brutal sun. It's also water proof and is quiet and soft. I think I got one that was 8x8'. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

VIAM outdoors (others I’m sure too) would make you a simple tarp in lightweight rips top sand colored fabric. A poncho sized tarp would be cool I think. Maybe even a military poncho in a lighter color.

I started out using my BPWD 8x10 flat trip for glassing and general shade use. It’s just too big for that purpose.

I purchased a Kifaru Sheep Tarp (roughly 5x9) and it’s been perfect. I use it for shade, glassing, as a pack cover, wrapping around me and my pack while sitting near a tree to wait out a shower, extra coverage outside my shelter for gear, or covered eating area. It’s been a perfect size for me so far.

Sheep tarp is great. It has multiple uses. My buddies made fun of me until they sat under it being dry when it was raining out.

Borah gear will make one that's super light and a few bucks cheaper than the kifaru. Can get it customized too.
