Here are a few pics of a buck I killed in Idaho this year.
On a very tough year for deer numbers, I was fortunate to find this buck during a scouting trip toward the end of August. I only got to see him for about 10 seconds until he disappeared back into the timber. I followed with 5 other trips in September and never saw him again.
During the October general rifle season there was good snow in the high country and the weather was dang cold! Bad for sleeping, bad for iced-up water supplies....but great deer hunting conditions!
On my 5th day of hunting, during a blizzard, I spotted the big buck feeding on the edge of some timber at 700 yards. Thirty minutes later I snuck to 230 yards for the shot.
There was a lot of hunting pressure in this area over that 5 days. I ended up killing the deer within 1/2 mile of where I originally saw him in August. A bit lower in elevation where there was more pines and cover. I think he was there the whole time but knew just how stay out of sight.
