Gaiters at REI

I think don't give rei your business

I am interested in why you are not supportive of shopping at REI?

Personally, I have used the Kuiu the past 2 years and would look hard at a non-black OR crocodile for my next gaiter. Not that Kuiu makes a bad gaiter, I just ahd better luck durability-wise with my old OR's. They are a bit noisier than the Kuiu if it matters.

You know it is a Cooperative. If every US hunter and Fisherman were a member and provided uniform Feedback, it would affect the entire direction of managementand Stewardship contributions...

But enough off topic political BS.. THanks for the heads up on the gaiters....

I was thinking about making a pair of Gaiters but for the clearance price of these I figured that they would be worth a shot to just buy them instead of some junk I put together falling apart at the wrong time.

I am guilty of shopping at REI based on no other choice and/or the fact that they are local but that doesn't make it right. They are clearly anti hunting. It also creeps me out that everyone in there looks like trendy tree huggers and ALWAYS ask "where ya headed" upon check out. Hate it. I won't even answer a cop when he asks me that question.

I don't know but they look like they'll not work well. Your probably better off putting your money towards a better gaiter. No reason to just throw money away which if they last only 1 season you will be doing. Buy the OR gaiters and if they ever break, even 20 years from now you will have their great warranty which usually they just send you a new pair instead of fixing.

Not me. I happily tell them I'm going elk hunting. When I'm buying stuff and they ask me how I'm going to use it, I've never shied away from telling them what I'll be doing with the gear and I've never had anyone get weird on me about it.

Same for me. In fact , I had a bearded , sandal wearing , tree hugger looking guy there get all excited and told me he wanted to go elk hunting. I told him the only way it happens is to make a decision to make it happen and follow through. I haven't seen him in there since so maybe management overheard and fired him . :(

The guy helping me with boots just flat out asked if I was going to go sheep hunting with them. I said yes and he started going over which boot he thought would be best and why and why he wouldnt recommend others.

I sat in the REI store with my hunting pack completely unloaded with knives and ammunition on the table so me and a sales person could practice cramming different kinds of gear in the bag. We swapped stories of my hunting adventures and his mountain climbing adventures. I have never had a bad experience at REI. I love their return policy and overall service. I really like the fact that Sportsman Warehouse and REI are both about 1/4 mile from the office. good for short notice gear issues before hitting the road.

Not so sure REI is anti hunting, seem to be more pro land to me.

I know the guy who runs the local REI, met him at the archery range. He loves hunting stories and pics. He and a bunch of his staff fish, and REI sells some fishing gear. I am not sure I buy the notion that they are anti-hunting, and I totally agree that they are pro-land. I have cringed at some of the groups they have provided grants to, but in doing a bit more research I learned that the grants were project-specific - and those projects were often to do trail development or repair. Improving people's access to the outdoors and protecting the resource. These are probably some of the same trails that Roksliders use to access their hunting areas.

I have seen links like that before, and then I did the research (reading that link isn't "research" - digging into the facts behind the claims is research). Like I said above, look at what REI is funding for those organizations. Most of it is purpose-specific grants related to trail maintenance and the like, and I don't think that indirectly funding trail maintenance is a problem.

everyone's entitled to there own opinion and way in which they view support of organizations. with the almost endless options of places to buy gear on the internet i can be picky with who i give money too. company's that provide financial support to pro wolf and anti timber organizations do not get my money. pretty simple from my view, dont even have to talk myself into it being ok to buy from them. i just dont..

Couldn't agree more. Plenty of places to get gear.
