I used it multiple places in CO, Upper green river lakes in WY, and Alaska. Never had an issue getting a reception. I did have some calls dropped after a few minutes but was able to call right back. I think this is typical of sat phones. I used it for quick contact and updates with the family and worked good for that. Not designed for long conversations. Hope that helps.

I started with a monthly plan. I was only using it during hunting. Monthly plan now starts at $65/mo for 100 mins and go up from there, 100 mins is a lot. Most recently I had a yearly plan as I was traveling out of state for work and had long stretches of no cell service and kept it with me in case of break downs. Yearly rate now is $780 for 1200 minutes and up from there. Looks like all the plans now also come with voicemail. I believe there is also a $50 activation charge like most sat units.
