I switched (attempted to switch) from an 80 STS to an 85 STX. Maybe I got a bad scope, but I was extremely let down. I had them side by side on tripods and phone skope attachments for both. Both visually with my eyes, and the photos from my phone skope, the 80 STS HD was better than the 85 STX. I returned the STX. It was 100% not worth the $4k upgrade. I wanted to like it too, trust me lol.

I cannot say its better optically but I love the modularity of the atx, stx, and btx system. Also you have the option of the 1.7 magnifier. In the future who knows what other kind of attachments could be created. Fatrascal

I find the field flatteners and wide angle lensing make for a better image.

It's also easier getting on the eyepiece.

I had a 65 ATM and my buddy had a 65 ATX - multiple times at the gun range I thought his scope was optically better.

I eventually took the full plunge and upgraded to the 65, 95, ATX, BTX, and 1.7x - the BTX is amazing!!!

I think the improvement was worth it.

@huntnful definitely had a bum scope. I saw the pictures and there's no way that 85 was right. I have a non hd 65, 80 hd and a 95stx. It's insane how clear the picture is on the 95. I'm selling my other scopes getting a 65 objective and never looking back. The btx is a game changer too!

Cost aside, for me the ATX had less tunnel vision at low power but the very slight optical improvements didn't justify the added weight over the ATS. I chose to go back to the ATS 65 HD for a pack spotter. For larger objectives I switched to Kowa and have been very happy I made the change.
