I have a 50# bag of concrete mix that cost around 4$. I've just wrapped the whole thing in duct tape so it doesn't get me or my pack dirty. Works like a charm!

I have done that too. It def works but I liked the variety and combo of these bags.

You can buy a 60lb sandbag for like $3 at Home Depot. If you get worried about busting it open, just toss it in a dry bag and you're good to go.

How much does each one weigh and how long? I realize you can make them any length. I have a bunch of pipe around sounds clean , easy and tough.

I buy 3 25# bags of rock salt. Or 1 50 and 1 25, depending on how "in shape" I am to begin with:) Then use it on the driveway in winter.

I made a frame out of large PVC (4"?) and filled with sand. It was made to fit the dimensions of my pack bag so it doesn't slop around. Works great.

I like these filled with water because they act like bags of meat. You can also change weight easily to vary training loads. But there are many ways to skin a cat. Just laying it out there in case someone else might benefit.

Sand is almost 3x as dense as water so if you are space constrained it allows you to get the load with a smaller volume.

When I used to do more mountaineering training a lot of people would haul jugs of water up the mountain and then dump them out for the hike down to take some load off their knees. (In most places, water is practically free and generally doesn't hurt anything if you dump it out.) You can argue that you miss out on some of the work with a light load going down, but I'm more of a fan of less load downhill for training.

My 60lb $6 sand bag works great and is shaped like a game bag. They sell them all over MN for traction to be used in the back of pickups.

I don’t know... these bags are going to last 1000x a zip lock bag. Plus you can use them for weight training. Sand bag get ups and shoulder presses and back squats. You aren’t doing that with zip lock bags.
