@Formidilosus struck JvB’s “Authority” nerve with his discussions related to smaller cartridges on the Hunt Backcountry Podcast.

JvB dogs on the Hunt Backcountry Podcast’s discussions with Form. I am willing to bet he hasn’t personally reached out to Steve and Mark to discuss their results on the “Experience Project” or listened to the follow up podcasts where they talk about their results.

Just wanted to throw this out there. Thanks. IMG_1555.jpeg

The way I read all this nobody is saying YOU HAVE TO use a light caliber...

BTW, check out some of those Aussie hog depredation vids- hundreds of kills- where they are using 60g .223 and so many of those hogs drop dead right there.

JVB enjoys history, and should know better than poo pooing an idea that has been around for a long time. The 22 Hi-Power shooting a 70 gr fragmenting bullet at 2750 fps was considered quite effective, back in 1912. Inexpensive WW1 & WW2 military rifles and ammo flooded the market, but newer little cartridges like the high performance 250 Savage or 257 Roberts were well received. The post WW2 magnum crazy (hot rod cars and rifles), and lack of rangefinders doomed the little slow cartridges (and underpowered cars). Now the renewed interest in long range shooting in a post LRF world has brought us full circle. 223 is a modern 22 Hi-Power, and the fast 6 UM is an updated 240 Weatherby from the 1960’s. :)

I honestly didn't click on the .223 for everything thread for a long time because I thought it was a joke. I had been indoctrinated with the same assumptions based on nothing, like many others. After seeing the evidence, I have changed my tune and will buying a suppressed 6mm for my daughter. I am afraid my trusty old .270 might get lonely in the gun safe after I put the new rifle together.
As a high school physics teacher, I only consider myself a pseudo-scientist. Pretty much everything I have heard from Form is based on data and makes complete sense. Most people's idea of what constitutes science, reliable data and facts these days is laughable. I think I will save 90 minutes of my life from going down the toilet and skip the podcast.
