Food Plot with Corn

A couple years ago we planted a nice corn plot and it turned out great with tall and healthy corn. We had a bear roll down and destroy the majority of the plot. We wanted to try again and planted corn this season. The corn is looking good, but looking for ideas/thoughts to keep a bear out of the corn in the early season. Don't have a bear tag so that doesn't help.

How big is the plot? Only thing I can think of is to fence it off...then when you want the deer in it (presumably late season) allow access through gates or dropping the fence.

Electric fence and every so often hang a sardine wrapped in aluminum foil with just a little hanging out from the wire.

This or peanut butter.

Also, to keep deer out while it's growing, a doubled electric fence. One inside the other 4'. The outside two wires around 12" and 34", the inside 24" and 48".

Here's a picture of a permanent one, but T-posts and cheap electric works surprisingly well.

Yea it is small just under .5 acres, but don't want it to get destroyed again. I had some similiar ideas with electric fence, but didn't know if that would stop the bear or just make it mad.

I would run dogs around it daily, let them do their business and put as much scent down as possible, may not work as well if they don't run bear with dogs in your area....electric fence won't even slow them down.

It's fun to watch them eat corn..they eat it like we do...lol

as @Billy Goat stated your best bet is to put up a small electric fence just like they use for beehive setups. Just google it and tons of relatively cheap options are available. Not sure on @Foggy Mountain comments. There's ton off beehives out in the country around my area and every single one of them have this electric fence set up and the bears never get in them & we have tons of bears in our area

Beehives are small areas bud, they can be fortified in a sense better. Also Around here the bears are way over carrying capacity. I’ve seen 11 in one day, my buddy had 13 on film in one cornfield, I come home from work they’re in the trees, you’ll see them walking past the truck as you’re underneath changing the oil. Let’s just say competition for food is high. Over 50 houses a year were broken into by bears looking for food in my area.
We had a hunt and it lessened things a little but they just Kiboshed it again.
In those circumstances the bears are nuts. People put up electric fences with bacon on it to hit the sensitive mouth. The bears learn to push it down with a furry arm to get inside. It’s over than.
Same with certain crops. Where there’s a will there’s a way. If the population is low they may find an easier food source but once you open the fence the bears will come.
Another consideration and again I don’t know the op area but if the deer aren’t used to bears they commonly shy away from them initially.
My area the deer are fine, other parts of the state where bears are “newer” the deer vacate where the bears are. They don’t have the option here.
I’d just plant something else. Bears eat corn til they get sick from it and keep eating/destroying field. 5 acres isnt that much. They could damage it quick.
just considerations and maybe irrelevant if the population isn’t too high

Sounds like @Foggy Mountain has a pretty extreme scenario. We have a high density of black bear in our area too, I'll still say a properly done electric fence will keep them out, tho most people don't understand what that is, and ground conditions can make a difference. Dry ground it's not as effective, but I'd assume you aren't putting corn into a desert.

I guess no point in taking electric fence into grizz country since it doesn't work right?

It could be resources are that short that they will damn near kill themselves for food, but if that's the case, I'd suspect the deer wouldn't be around.
