My dad and I are headed to Idaho for a drop camp hunt third week in September. We need to arrange food to be packed in and lunch/snacks on the trail.

What are your camp favorites since you're not so worried about weight? And what's in your pack for the day hunts?

Links to other threads are welcome. Thanks!

Let us know if it needs to be light weight or off regular stuff will work.

Some of my favorites in horse camp are the following:

Tortillas
Cheese
Spaghetti sauce
Miso soup
Peanut butter
Jelly
Precooked bacon
Bobo bars
Apples
1 beer per night
Candy bars
I always bring a pack of meat and precooked potatoes.

I use the tortillas and cheese to make quesadillas and then spread my rehydrated food on them. I'll garnish with garlic salt, hot sauce, spaghetti sauce.

Miso soup is delicious on a cold wet day.

Only one beer per night though?! ;)

We always precook ribs, sausage, steak, green chili stew etc then throw it in a vacuum sealed bag just boil it for a few minutes and your good to go. Breakfast I like to just put eggs in a gatorade bottle and cook them in a small pan just tastes better best part of having horses! We throw all that in a soft yeti and it stays frozen for 4-5 days

This.

We also do the same with Lasagna, mac & cheese, enchiladas, etc.

Like someone said before, eggs in a Gatorade bottle is good for breakfast. Bring tortillas and wrap them in foil. Can hike and eat at your convenience.

Another good breakfast was boxed pancakes.

We made a big pot roast and froze it. Cook up some rice and serve over top for a good hot meal after a long day hunting.

Also froze a lasagna but that was hard to reheat without burning. I’d probably freeze a meet sauce and take spaghetti next time.

To save some weight we took one case of beer and a bottle of whiskey.

One thing I would change from my trip last year was snacks. We didn’t take enough!

Chili in a vacuum-sealed bag is a must on all of our excursions. Can't ever go wrong with a beer (or two) at the end of the day, helps replenish much-needed calories too.
